Diablo 3 Novel, Storm of Light, Coming in 2014

4IKSCN1EJMFS1378848853045Blizzard has announced Storm of Light by Nate Kenyon, an upcoming Diablo Novel. It’s due for release next year to coincide with and flesh out the back story of Reaper of Souls, it will fill in plot events between the end of D3C and the start of D3X, and it can be pre-ordered right now.

The High Heavens are healing after the fall of the Prime Evil. The Angiris Council has recovered the Black Soulstone and now stands vigil over the cursed artifact deep within the glimmering Silver City.

Amid these momentous events, Tyrael struggles with his position as the new Aspect of Wisdom, feeling out of place as a mortal among his angelic brethren and doubting his ability to fully embody his role. As he searches within himself and the Heavens for reassurance, he senses the Black Soulstone’s grim influence on his home. Where harmony of light and sound once reigned, a mounting discord is threatening to shroud the realm in darkness. Imperius and the other archangels vehemently oppose moving or destroying the crystal, leading Tyrael to put Heaven’s fate in the hands of humankind…

Drawing powerful humans to his side from the far ends of Sanctuary, Tyrael reforges the ancient Horadrim and charges the order with an impossible task: to steal the soulstone from the heart of Heaven. Among the champions entrusted with this burden are Jacob of Staalbreak, former avatar of Justice and guardian of the angelic blade El’druin; Shanar, a wizard with phenomenal powers; Mikulov, a lithe and reverent monk; Gynvir, a fearless and battle-hardened barbarian; and Zayl, a mysterious necromancer. With time and the forces of both good and evil against them, can these heroes unite as one and complete their perilous mission before the Heavens fall to ruin?

Fans of the lore and the Diablo Novels rejoice! By most accounts, The Order, the previous Diablo 3 novel by the same author, was a pretty good read. It’s got 4.5/5 ratings on Amazon and tells a lot of backstory in interesting fashion. In other words, don’t let some of the in-game “story” put you off of the novels; you won’t have to endure a repetitious bellowing Pumpkinhead hologram popping out of the book every ten minutes…

  1. ” Storm of Light is a bridge between the events of Diablo III and the story that is to come in its first expansion, Reaper of Souls.”

I knew we got more then just one Expansion. Its both cheaper and less timeconsuming to make expansions! 😀

  2. Read second to last paragraph. So we have a crusader, Wizard, monk, and necromancer. Necromancer? Is this a foreshadow?

  3. Wha . . ? Zayl is back? I enjoyed the previous stories with him in it. Looking forward to this one. Hope he still has Humbart with him.

  4. Who actually reads this crap?

  5. I guess I have to buy this book now just cause it has Zayl in it. Moon of the Spider was the only Diablo book that I thought was any good; Zayl made for an interesting protagonist, and had actual depth as a character (something which I feel the protagonists of the other books lacked). As a result, I kind of have to buy this.

I hope I can get it in China. I wonder if Beijing has any bookstores that sell English books.

  6. Good to see Zayl return, can’t wait for this.
