Diablo 3 Necromancer Beta test starting soon

Prepare to raise the dead! The Diablo 3 Necromancer beta test is coming “soon”. Don’t forget, you need to actually opt-in to be in with a chance of testing.

Prepare yourselves—the Necromancer beta test is right around the corner, nephalem!

Invitations to our closed beta test will soon be going out worldwide. If you are invited, we’d love to hear all about your adventures on the forums, watch your live streams, and see screenshots and videos of your experiences as you wield the dark powers of the Necromancer.

Please keep in mind that the Necromancer and other parts of Patch 2.6.0 are still in development. As such, content in the closed beta may change and does not necessarily represent the final version.

For additional information about the closed beta, including how to participate and answers to frequently asked questions, read on below!

How to Participate:

If you’re interested in participating in the Necromancer beta test, you’ll want to make sure you’ve opted-in for beta testing. To opt in, simply visit your Beta Profile Settings page in Account Management, check the Diablo box under Beta Tests I’m Interested In, and then click Update Preferences. In order to be eligible to participate in the closed beta, you must have an active Diablo III license attached to your Blizzard account in good standing (i.e. not suspended or banned).

Please note that opting in to the Necromancer beta test does not guarantee you access (especially since invites to our closed beta will be extremely limited), but it does at least give you a chance at joining the beta test.

Necromancer Beta Test FAQ:

How are beta test participants selected from the opt-in pool?

Beta testers are chosen according to their system specifications, in-game activity, and other factors, including an element of luck.

How will I know if I’m selected to participate in the beta?
If you are selected to participate in the Necromancer beta test, you will receive an invite via email. This invitation will always be sent to the email address associated with your Blizzard account.

Will there be any other ways to get into the beta besides opting-in?
In addition to opt-ins, we are also inviting key members of the community on a case-by-case basis. Invites to the Necromancer beta test will be extremely limited, however, and opting in is your best way to get in.

How many players do you plan to invite to the beta test?
The number of players we invite will be based on our testing needs. If we ultimately determine we need more players to participate after the initial testing, we’ll invite more.

What game content will be available in the beta?
Players who participate will have access to all of the Necromancer’s skills and abilities, as well as other Patch 2.6.0 content. In addition, new Legendary and Set items unique to the Necromancer will be added in over time. Our upcoming patch notes will have all the details on what’s included.

How long will the beta test last?
We have not determined an exact date for the end of the beta test. We will notify participants when the beta test is nearing completion.

Will there be an open beta?
In order to ensure focused feedback and a smooth testing experience for beta players, the Necromancer beta test will be invite-only for the duration of the test.

Is there an NDA?
There is no non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for the Necromancer beta test. You are welcome to take screenshots, livestream your play sessions, and record feedback videos. Please keep in mind that the game is still a work in progress, though, and we appreciate your understanding when you encounter bugs, graphical errors, or other issues.

Will Mac users be able to participate in the beta test?
Yes, Mac users will be able to participate in the beta at the same time as Windows users

  1. Good luck!
You only get a Diablo Beta invite if you’re God.

  2. boring, i quit playing this crap 2 years ago and i do not think i will ever come back to it, maybe if they remaster diablo 2 i play :”D

    • why are you here then with your “boring” talk ? we hear other kiddies with no brain said it before you
go play poe shit crap instead its where all the D3 haters and idiots like you dwell !
      you are gonna love it

      • Might have something to do with the fact that this website is actually called DIABLOII.net if you’re brain was capable of handling such incredibly obvious facts. People are obviously coming here to talk about DIABLO 2. Talk about no brain.

        • The site is called Diabloii (eye, eye) not DoabloII (2), learn how to read! The post is about the Necro which is coming to D3. Yes, “Talk about no brain.” You sir, are an idiot.

          • Are you… are you literally braindead? ii and II are both equally valid representations of the roman numerals for “2”. Have you never read a book that had preface pages? They’re labeled in lowercase roman numerals.

But you seem to be dumb enough to have perhaps never read a book in your life.

          • You have your head so far up your backside it would take a jack hammer to remove it, you dimwit. This is a Diablo site (all inclusive) Not a Diablo “2” (limited) site. 99% of the items on this site are Diablo 3 related. The subject is about the Diablo 3 Necromancer nothing related to Diablo 2 and yet trolls like yourself still have the need to pop and with your diarrhea of the mouth.

    • Another dweeb who comes to a site to bitch about a game he does not even play. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

    • Time spent wisely…… oh, wait….

It’s a damn fine game for those who dig it. If you can’t dig it, then why bother?

  3. Totally agree with Avalon and osmosys most negative comments about the game belongs to dudes who not even play the game anymore ??? Their life must really boring, since they make all these comments on a fansite, its a free world and you are allowed to say what you think no doubt about that, but make comments on a game you hate and dont even play and waste time to log in here, holy moses

  4. Beta? lol. wtf are they serious? It’s just a PTR, not an expansion pack. Blizz Hype train is running full steam ahead. Prepare for $20 + price tag. Get them wallets lubed white knights so the money slides out nice and smooth into Blizzards eager money holes.
As for why people who don’t even play D3 anymore still post here, you DO realize this is also a D1 and D2 fan site, right? Plenty of people here don’t play D3 or NEVER played D3 but still come here to discuss the first 2 games and how shitty the 3rd one is. If you want D3 exclusive coverage go to Diablofans. I don’t think they do D1 or D2 there.

    • The post is about the Necrom Beta, which will be part of D3, not D1 or D2, If you do not play D3 than shut the hell up, some people suffer from a special form of stupidity. If your knew what your were taking about you would know why they are doing a Beta.

    • Yes its also for D1 and D2 and of course they can discuss these versions but if they never played D3 why then write about D3 here and how shitty D3 are or even compare with D1-D2 if they dont play it, that is stupid and its bit ignorant when you write : If you want D3 exclusive coverage go to Diablofans. I have agree with you in many issues during the time but your comment is out of line. Have a nice weekend btw

    • I get what you’re saying, but it’s not exactly applicable to what’s happening here. What if you frequent a fan based site on Mario. If you’re coming here for news/details on Super Mario World or Mario64, then the likely hood of it happening is rare. You’ll still get news from time to time about emulation, ports, remakes, ect. But this is a site based on the Universe of Diablo. It’s everything from news on D3 and to ladder resets of D2. These guys do a great job at being a fan site, so they defiantly cater to you and the regular players pf D3. Don’t come in here expecting the old to be better than the new. You drive a muscle car from the late 60’s, don’t compare it to a hybrid with better performance.

  5. Right, the beta must be real critical. Like the D3 beta that let you play up to Leoric. Because of that we got such an awesome balanced game where you had to play 1k hours to get a Legendary drop that had shittier stats than your Level 50 rares bought off the Auction House. It’s also why everyone was able to log in no issues on day 1, there were never any error 34s… Or the RoS Beta that overhauled the item system & made the 200 or so useless shit legendaries all viable, & introduced over a million builds the original game promised, also PvP arena, err, I mean Brawling. Blizzard closed Betas in D3 are obviously real important, & real useful. It’s not like they only use them for marketing purposes & just send the beta to the live servers ignoring all the bug reports & feedback from the community so the live game has the same bugs and shit mechanics from the beta/PTR… And if I come here looking for news on D2 HD you better believe I will continue to point out how big a wad of wasted potential D3 is, & how damaging it is to the franchise whenever I see fit. To the guy with the car analogy, that makes sense… But only assuming the new subject is actually superior. The only category where D3 has D2 beat is combat & even that’s somewhat debatable depending where you currently find yourself in each game. D3 early game wrecks D2 early game, whereas D2 late game curb stomps D3 late game. The only other debatable category would be graphics. But that’s mostly because of art direction & matter of opinion.

    • Beta testing once included things like user experience feedback, where testers could comment on what they liked and what not, regarding the tested gameplay. Those days are long gone for Blizzard game testing, it seems – so much so that they consider themselves as the one and only authority on criticizing their own design.

Today’s focus in Blizzard betas is on testing hardware configurations, server performance, finding game-breaking bugs, and mostly PR, but certainly not about correcting their designs (they’ll typically draw their own conclusions long after something hit rock bottom in the live game).

I’m not sure what else they might be testing the witch-doctor’s vampire reskin for, other than generating PR. Let’s remember that not a single functionality or bug was fixed upon D3’s release after more than half a year of beta testing.

      • And don’t forget the legendaries item debacle – “oh, those aren’t the real legendaries, they’re just placeholders. The real ones will be awesomesauce!”

Then what they delivered was just a slightly re-worked version of their “placeholder” ones.

  6. Blizzard fucked up with D3, there is no doubt about it…

Proof is that D1&D2 fans always argue with D3 fans, and that is 100% Blizzard’s fault.

They should have made sure that D2 fans felt “at home” right off the bat when playing D3, but that obviously didn’t happen. They also didn’t bring anything new with D3. There is absolutely nothing innovative in D3. All they did was remove A LOT of features and then arguably created very good combat. I say “Arguably”, because many people find it ridiculous how fast and thus meaningless combat is in D3. There is no need for a tactical approach, or using smart ways to overcome dangerous enemies. Nothing matters, you just nuke the crap out of clumps of countless enemies stacked on top of each other.

    • No, it’s the fault of people like you because you whine and cry that the new game isn’t the old game with new paint. You are so glued to something you can do nothing but cry that you’re being left behind. You create a caustic community because you’re bitter. Cry quietly to yourself and leave people who actually like the game be.

  7. I have never understood why people should apply to be beta testers… for free. You know, beta testing and debugging is a job, but i think some companies think they can avoid having to actually pay people based solely on people’s innocence (and fanboyism).

Since PTR is wiped every time a new one pops up, all the time/progress invested there is deleted. We can then safely say that all the time people spends there is wasted. Blizz receives feedback and deploys patches at the cost of only running their servers. What drives the participating people to work for free then?

    • You aren’t wrong, but at the same time, there are a lot of people who genuinely want to help create a better game. You could consider getting early access to the various toys to be payment for the beta testing, after all most players don’t do nearly as much work as a real beta tester. Not even close, generally.

    • First, people want to become beta testers because they receive value out of it – not in dollar terms, but in terms of getting to play a new game earlier than they otherwise would. You may not value that, but other people do value that, and so they’re happy to do ‘work’ in return for that value.

Secondly, working in QA for a game developer is very different from casually joining a public beta test. QA workers get paid shit, have long hours, and the job is mostly very tedious. That’s entirely different from someone who might play the beta for 20 hours the first week, and then 5 hours a week after that, and they actually *play* the game, they aren’t monotonously testing it like the QA guys are forced to do.

  8. It could be that some who like the game just want to get in on the new content, which is much better than other who complain about a game that they no longer even play, go figure.

  9. I have 1,500 hours on the DH in Diablo 3, that’s only a small portion of what some players have, but i consider it a fairly large investment of my time. I have pretty much played through most of the major changes in the game, and on many occasions before they would introduce something the player base would come up with great ideas, and of course those ideas would get ignored and we would end up with something worse.

A good example would be the DH Marauder set. It was heavily argued during its PTR buffing phase for the devs to open up the 6pc set bonus to include “hatred spenders”, but instead the devs just picked THEIR favorite skills and now we have two sets that boost Multishot. STUPID!

Its disappointments like that which killed the theory crafting in this game. Instead of opening things up they always funnel things into limited options. There is absolutely no reason why M6 could not have been changed like we were asking for.

A second example would be our chest armor sockets, we are still wearing the same mofo gems in them YEARS later. WTF? You really cant give us better options? That’s a pretty simple thing for a RPG to offers its players right? I dont see how anyone can claim progress when Diablo 2 LOD offers more choices and its MOFO RPG ancient history.

Those are just a few examples, I still do play the game but there are many things to be disappointed with, and I will most certainly make those things known.

I dont care what you fan boys think.

  10. As a result of seeing oneself as a victim denied, there can occur a powerful drive toward disaffection and complaining. As is almost inevitably the case, there is a great need on the part of a hater to validate their oppositional stance, and the victim-victimizer scenario greatly assists a person in justifying their course of action. Blame shifting may therefore temporarily relieve a person, but it will only succeed in sanctioning a person’s actions so long as their position is given greater exposure over that of all others. Thus, the importance placed upon maintaining a heightened level of awareness toward the haters unique view works to reinforce the reasons for their departure by maintaining the consequences of blame and continuing to scrutinize it in the object of hostility. It is not difficult to see then why a hater so adamantly rejects information that contradicts the typecast that they have worked so hard to establish.

    • Way to ignore all the reasons everyone gave in their posts. Everyone gave at least 1 reason why D3 is a mess and you insist on chalking it all up to “It’s not D2 so Waaah” White Knights always say the only thing wrong with the game is the community. Carlyle posted the biggest problem with this game above, Blizzard sees itself as the only qualified authority to game mechanics. That’s why we end up with problems like sneakytails pointed out. But go ahead and keep telling the king how good his clothes look, the sun reflecting off his ass has clearly blinded you.

      • Man, I am so done with you Trolls, go back into your D2 cave, when another D3 subject is posted, crawl back out with all your tired ass, worn out (D3 sucks, the Devs suck, Fanboys suck, anything D3 related sucks) comments.

    • That sounds like directly typed of from a textbook. Would you provide me with author and title, please? Sounds like something you could learn from …

  11. I just got into the beta, no more time for you haters.
