Diablo 3 Developers Patch 2.1 Live Chat Next Week

d3-dev-patch21Next Thursday will see a live chat with the Diablo 3 developers hosted via Blizzard’s Diablo channel on Twitch.tv. They’re going to be talking in depth about new content in Patch 2.1 and they’re asking for fans to submit questions via their @Diablo twitter feed. Thursday, August 21st at 11:00 a.m. PDT, we’ll be making ourselves comfortable in the Blizzard Studio to hang out, chat, and answer some of your questions about the patch and its development.

Who can you expect to see on stream?

    This sort of thing is usually more about catching up for people who haven’t been following all the details… than about breaking new infos for those who have. But as long as Patch 2.1 has been in testing and as many major (and minor) game features as it’s changing, that’s definitely needed.

    Any questions you guys are dying to ask? We’ll be submitting some from our @DiabloIncGamers twitter, and if you’re one of the blessed few who has not yet succumbed to the bluebird, you can stick questions in comments below and we’ll tweet them along. The most obvious question is “when” and while the answer is always DiabloWikisoon™, perhaps this live chat is a sign that the patch coming to live actually is… soon?

    1. Sorry if everyone/anyone feels the need to skewer me on this for being naive. But as someone that played a lot of D2 the one things I have never seen discussed is going back to the option of having the weapon swap. I really liked the ability to have different weapons and effects tailored to two different styles of battles. Has this ever been suggested as we move forward in D3?

      • Why yes….

        That would be me quoting me, asking Jay Wilson about it in 2009. Reading that now and the longer Bashiok quote below it… ugh. I hated their excuse then, and it hasn't aged well.

        That said, in RoS these days I don't know how much use a weapon switch would be. Since weapon damage type means nothing and it's all about the element of your skill, the common D2 thing of switching from physical to elemental is irrelevant. And monsters don't have specific elemental immunities in D3 anyway.

        Where it would be handy in RoS is changing between different weapons for different legendary affixes. You'd have one set that proced something good for crowds and another for Elites. At least weapon/off-hand with +elite damage on a switch would be powerful.

        But no, we don't have it and we're never going to get it.

    2. I have a question that's as much of a request as anything. Why isn't some sort of plain Base Damage (before attack speed adjustment) listed in the details section of the character screen?

      I hate having to switch out to a calculator to divide displayed DPS by attacks per second to compare Base Damage of weapons.

    3. I would have a ton of questions for Don Vu since he is the monk class dev. I want to know why he can't get monks to be on par with other classes and insists on just giving baby bumps to skills rather than making them actually powerful. I am on PTR right now and monks are still in a bad place compared to other classes. Also I want to know the thought process behind the recent legendary gem nerfs. As it stands now very few leg gems can compete with just raw damage on a piece of jewelry.

    4. 1.How was the removal of the legendary crafting system that offered something besides the rift/bounty regime good for the Diablo 3 Franchise?

    5. With the patch adding more unique items (both directly and via the introduction of seasonal legendaries) and the increased focus on items as “build enablers”, what consideration has been given to adding fun yet fair ways (e.g. IC vendor’d quests/maps, OOC pity timers, etc) for players to obtain specific items that personally interest them in a bounded period of gameplay?
