  1. Looking forward to BlizzCon 2016! I am always buying the virtual ticket because it comes with exclusive in-game goodies.

According to certain Blizzard Employee comments & leaks at the 2015 Blizzcon, Diablo fans “are going to lose their shit” in 2016 Blizzcon 🙂

Would be awesome if this would materialize!

My bets are on Diablo 4 being announced, and (maybe…)on top of it an expansion for Diablo 3 to help fuel the hype before Diablo 4 launches by bringing back fans with a second expansion. (I am mostly sure about D4, and D3 expansion on top of it, would be just a hype generator tool, IF it would actually happen)

    • I think you are spot on. That would be the ideal way to do it. If they announce D4 they still have a year to polish and alpha and beta test it. I think this time they will test it much longer than they tested D3 lol!

    • Yeah I was at 2015 Blizzcon in person and I was there when the community manager said “diablo fans will lose their shit at next years blizzcon” haha. I heard that d3 community manager got fired in the next 3 days right after blizzcon. I think he was called Grimiku.

This guy said it when me and a bunch of other people were standing there chatting about diablo with two community managers. He was one of them.

    • Well, judging by their recent patches (Kanai's Cube, Ruins of Sescheron etc), they ditched D3X2 development because the game's meta is considered "dead". They moved on to D4 as action-MMO with much more depth, TBA at Blizzcon 2016, maybe even earlier at gamescom in August  with a preview trailer. In the meantime we get all they had ready for D3X2 (and more) in slices. I'm pretty sure there is no D3X2 announcement, but another big one: We get a new D3 class (like the Druid) for free some time this year.

    • Announce of Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2016? Unrealisticly optimistic.

    • I want to add that the Gamer Professionals magazine recently made a tour through Blizzards HQ in Irvine (on January 30, 2016), and they were not allowed to see the Diablo area because "the next patch is in the works". The features of 2.4 were known at that time, and 2.4.1 for sure is not "top secret", so I assume that 2.5 is in the development already. 2.5 is a typical major content update number (before expansion-size content is released), and assuming that Blizzards gives us the (ex-)D3X2 content indeed for free, this 2.5 patch *could* include a brand-new class. It just feels right at this point to keep people playing the game for another 1-2 years before D4 becomes a reality. Here is the source:

  2. Yeah, Diablo 4 announcement seems like a pretty big stretch.  Usually when you hear things like "Diablo fans are going to lose their s**t!", it means they're introducing a new tile set for the rifts, or Hagafanamil the Druid is being added as a playable character in Heroes of the Storm.

  3. FACTS:

-D3X2 will never be released as an expansion for purchase.
-D3X2 content will be released in patches instead

-D3X3 MIGHT be announced/released, and will appear to the public as D3X2
-D3 will release content through patches or another expansion simply to fuel the hype for D4 and gather the fans “before the storm”
-D4 has been in the works for a while
-D4 might be announced this year (speculating based on employee screw-ups, various hints, etc.)
-D4 would not be released for at least a year or two from the date of announcement
-D4 will be alpha and beta tested to a much higher extend than D3 was

  4. As the writer who actually went on that tour, I think you guys are all looking a little too hard into this. 😛 Basically, they refused to let anyone in on any developmental details, and we were escorted around very carefully and were within their eye sight at all times. When I mentioned it in that context, it could literally be anything; we don’t know at this point, and the only ones who know is them.

I do apologize if that news is disappointing, but it’s not meant to be some grand reveal or anything like that. They’re doing \something\ with Diablo, but that’s about it that the public was told.

  5. So, the question is does anyone even care? I'm not sure Blizzard could make a game that comes even close to D1 or D2 again, even if they make everyone 'lose their shit' by announcing they're bringing back Brevik and Blizz north to put it together. ActiBlizz is a different animal, of which I now have 0 faith in. What made Blizz games so enjoyable to me in the past was the endless replayability and the addictive campaigns and endless player customizations their games offered. ActiBlizz wants you playing their games how they see fit, can't make a decent campaign to save their lives and would rather bite down on cyanide capsules than allow for true untethered player customization these days. My prediction: D3x2 will make D3 even more of a mess, and/or D4 will be more of a stink bomb than D3 was… Is there anything that would make me lose my shit over Diablo again? Yeah, the announcement that they're making an offline mode for D3 that isn't for the Xbox or PS.
