Blizzard on the (soon) Diablo 3 Beta Test

Blizzard has added some image-intensive pages to their site promoting Diablo III and trying to spread the EXCITE for the imminent DiabloWikiDiablo 3 Beta test. There’s a Beta overview plus a Beta FAQ, (there’s no start date or anything else you didn’t already know), and they’re studded with pictures and flashy graphics (which is what Bliz websites do best) and it thus provides a visually-appealing diversion.

Countless hours of consulting the ancient prophecies and poring over dusty tomes have resulted in the unearthing of new information about Diablo III. The upcoming Diablo III beta test will introduce a treasure trove of exciting new features, including a new Auction House that will provide a powerful new way for your characters to acquire the implements of war. Prepare yourselves!

They’ve also added a short Auction House overview (but not yet an official systems page to the official D3 site), and tacked on the AH FAQ as well.

  1. So, I’m guessing they didn’t provide us with any sort of estimates on the start date? I’ve been researching to see if they said anything, but I haven’t seen any information on the issue.

  2. Interesting, that the page still features runes as part of the beta, though they won’t be in as I know… Maybe it was put together way before the press event…

  3. Guys,
This is potentially great news for us! If you look at the Beta FAQ, you will see the first question:
What are your goals for this beta?
The primary reason for the Diablo III beta test is for us to test out our new hardware, see how the server–client infrastructure holds up, and look for bugs in the installer and patcher as well as the game…
This almost definitely means that this will be a SHORT beta.  Like i had said in a previous post elsewhere, i think this is going to be mainly a stress test beta.

  4. I doubt that would be so short. Otherwise they wouldn’t post news like “we’re still heading to release D3 in 2011”. Blizzard is always very cautious about announcements.
So what about “beta waves” (America first, Europe later), was it confirmed?

    • It was confirmed but they did say that if you got your hands on a beta key outside of testing zones, you can still participate but there might be some latency issues on your end.

      • I doubt they’ll send keys outside of “current testing” region except for those BlizzCon keys but whatever.

  6. From the beta test overview:

    “Make It Your Own
Each character is brimming with possibilities. Which potent combination of skills, weapons, armor, and enhancements — including gems, charms, and runestones — will you assemble? With countless ways to customize each hero, players will definitely get a taste of what it means to be unique in the Diablo III beta test. ”
    Charms?!  😛
