A fan by the name of Anubin has been using Google SketchUp to create a 3D version of some iconic areas of Sanctuary, as seen in Diablo and Diablo 2. These are not hand made with loving textures and colors and all that cool stuff, like the masterpieces Delowyn turns out, but for someone using a free tool of limited power, they’re pretty snappy.
I first saw his version of Tristram, as seen in Diablo 1, and it’s very cool. All of the town is laid out in proper location and proportion, including all of the NPCs, buildings, rivers, rocks, dungeon entrances, and yes, of course…. cows. See it in in the video embedded below; check out the real town for to compare the dimensions. (He also created a movie of Tristram with an added fog filter, but the camera operator is on drugs, so it’s a bit dizzying.)
Anubin used the same tools to create a 3D version of the Arreat Summit, the site of the battle against The Ancients. You can see a picture of it below, from our Diablo 2 fan art gallery, or click through to view it in a movie.
