Yes, ladies and gents, it’s time for another Cryptozoological Creature Feature with your pal Grug. This time I delved deep into the infamous Tristram Cathedral. After meeting and subsequently abandoning a talkative chap named Kormac, I proceeded down to the fourth floor, where I was fortunate enough to experience a chance encounter with Killian Damort, Deadeye Archer.
As you may have guessed, Killian is both Dead and an Archer. He was found lurking in the middle of the room like any other elite monster would be. He didn’t crawl out of the ground like our friend McCree, profiled in Cryptozoology #1. It took me a moment and a glance at his health bar to even realize he was Legendary.
I suppose my first clue should have been his reclusive tendencies. Aside from a bat or two on the lower section of the room, Killian was alone. No minions, no nothing. Of course, when you see a single, glowing, golden archer waiting for you in a room you know that s**t is about to go down.
Sadly, Killian had abilities equal to the standard “Frozen” Champion. He would fire arrows like any other Skeleton Archer found in the Cathedral, and I would be slowed if they hit.
No matter how I poked and prodded, he didn’t do much more than walk around and fire arrows at me. No geysers, no earthquakes, just walk and shoot and occasionally laugh.
There was a bit of a surprise when I finally put him out of his misery. I had completely forgot about how Frozen monsters release a Frost Nova when killed. Fortunately I managed to take a picture of the icy ground before the effect completely faded.
All in all, a disappointing fight. If I hadn’t paused to study dear Killian I might have destroyed him in about three seconds. I wonder if Blizzard is planning to do anything more with Legendary creatures. The Skeleton King recently had his hitpoints increased to make the fight longer and more challenging. Perhaps if other Legendary encounters got the same royal treatment they could have more chances to show off their unique abilities.
But it wasn’t a total loss. I did discover that skeletal archers all carry fanny packs!’
