    Vote: Blizzard’s Cross-Game Promotions

Posted 21 Aug 2015 by at 21:29 GMT

Where fits D's tail on the Maltypony?

Where fits D’s tail on the Maltypony?

Blizzard has engaged in digital cross-game promotion for years, with players able to earn prizes in their games by attending Blizzcon, or unlocking special prizes with the purchase of Collector’s Edition versions of their games. Those were almost always just cosmetic buffs, but the trend is definitely accelerating, and with the cross-game prizes increasing in quality, including things like new cards in Hearthstone and new characters in Heroes of the Storm, some controversy is ensuing.

I assume people with lots of time for video games, who play multiple Blizzard titles, love these promotions, as they are getting bonus features for doing what they were doing anyway. Other players are much less enthused, or find their versions of the games ineligible for the tie in. For example:

I saw the news that reaching level 70 will grant a unique mount in Heroes of the Storm. I was wondering if the eligibility of this is checked for console accounts. I only own D3 on PS4 and linking accounts has never shown any ownership on my Battle.net profile nor did I get the reward for linking. Wondering if this will be the same.
Grimiku: I’m glad you asked about this, and I’ll be sure to mention it the next time we have a meeting with the dev team. However, this cross promotion is only for PC/Mac users, and the Ultimate Evil Edition is not eligible.

Our post earlier this week about a bunch of new HotS perks generated interesting debate, with some players quite annoyed that Blizzard was “forcing” them to play other games to enable Diablo 3 content, while other players thought it was all cool. So let’s survey community opinion with the blunt little tool of a survey.

    Vote: Blizzard’s Cross-Game Promotions:

    What's your opinion of Blizzard's cross-game promotions?

I couldn’t figure a way to offer enough vote options for fine-grained opinion gauging — players might love this since they play all the games, love it while only playing D3, like it while playing only one of the games, hate it since they don’t have time to play all, not like cross promotion in general, not care since the prizes are (almost) all cosmetic, etc. So after you vote, hit the comments to share your opinion and why, since I think the reasons for this are as interesting as the general approval rating.

    BlizzCon Virtual Tickets On Sale

Posted 21 Aug 2015 by at 01:44 GMT

You have maybe noticed this already but just in case here’s a quick reminder that the BlizzCon virtual tickets are now on sale for the price of £24.99 here in the UK.

This is the best way to watch the action from BlizzCon if you can’t afford to actually attend. It also means you can slouch in a chair or on a sofa and watch it in your underpants if you so desire.

The coverage is usually pretty good with the only drawback being you can’t go hands-on with all the new stuff. Still, it’s worth it if you can’t make it to Anaheim.

A quick note if you;re wondering where Flux is, he’s been moving house this week so has been a bit tied up with that.

Kanai’s Cube Bonuses On Character Profile?

Posted 20 Aug 2015 by at 00:30 GMT

Like this, but in the Profile.

Like this, but in the Profile.

The three legendary item powers enabled by Kanai’s Cube currently do not show up in another player’s profile, when you snoop them in-game or in chat. Players have been requesting this fixed in the UI for a while, but there’s good news from a Blue, who says it’s a WiP.

Can we please get the small quality of life change to our forum player profiles of the three powers we have cubed for our characters showing up on their profile? You could simply put it under the “Gear Bonuses” section, in orange to indicate that it is legendary powers. Either list the item names (Furnace, Ring of Royal Grandeur, Cindercoat, for example) or just list the powers themselves. Either one of these options would work.

This would help other players checking out our builds to know what items we have cubed, and would give us a way to check what we have cubed on our own characters while not in game.
Grimiku: Currently, our plan is to include powers granted via Kanai’s Cube on the player profile. We do not have any additional details to share about this feature just yet, but we do appreciate the feedback and wanted to let you know that it’s on the way.

As you heard if you listened to (or just read our highlights) the last live stream with Wyatt Cheng, Diablo III can be hampered by bottlenecks in getting the UI updated. During the stream, Wyatt talked about how the snapshot feature, showing what a character’s gear/build when they got their best GRift time, was functional on their internal builds for months before it showed up in Patch 2.3 on the PTR. There just wasn’t any way for it to be visible to players in the UI.

Sounds like this Kanai’s Cube issue is the same thing, with the feature working fine in the game and showing in other ways, but just no time yet for one of the UI programmers to get it to display in the profile as players wish. Hopefully we’ll see it when the patch goes live, or at least added in a hotfix long before Season 5…

Diablo 3 & Heroes of the Storm Cross Promo

Posted 17 Aug 2015 by at 23:31 GMT

With the next coming patch for Heroes of the Storm Blizzard is doing a cross game promotion. Rush first posted about it here.

Sanctuary’s heroes and villains continue to invade the Nexus, and we’re celebrating their arrival with wondrous rewards you can earn by playing each game!

Immediately following the next Heroes patch, any player with a Diablo III license on their Battle.net account will receive the Diablo Hero in Heroes of the Storm for free. Simply log in to Heroes of the Storm to claim the Lord of Terror and start unleashing hell on your foes. Don’t wait though— this offer ends at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 8!

The cross-universe rewards don’t end there. Diablo III players who reach level 12 in Heroes of the Storm will also receive a unique pennant and portrait frame in Diablo III for PC and Mac. In addition, reaching level 70 with a Seasonal Hero in Season 4 and beyond gives you the shadowy Malthael’s Phantom mount in Heroes of the Storm!

All of these goodies can be yours, nephalem—but are you brave enough to take on both Sanctuary and the Nexus? There’s only one way to find out! We’ll see you in the Nextuary (see what we did there?).

Free shinies! I know I don’t have Diablo yet myself and my Crusader will have a nice new horse to ride on. Who doesn’t want free stuff?

Diablo 3 Auction House Greatest Hits

Posted 15 Aug 2015 by at 15:59 GMT

    Auction House memories?

    Auction House memories?

Moldran put together an interesting video recapping the highs and lows of the DiabloWikiDiablo III Auction House. It’s narrated with lots of footage pulled from his and other streamer’s archives, and while it focuses mostly on bugs and controversial bits that were only a small portion of the Auction House experience (for most players), it’s informative. (Then again, focusing on the disasters is how most media works. “100,000 Planes landed safely today” isn’t exactly headline material.)

Diablo 3 Auction House Greatest Hits

Stir any AH memories for you guys? I don’t want the AH back, but I have to admit feeling some nostalgia looking at those scenes of the interface and the happy sight of successful sales and buys. I enjoy actually finding gear in the game today, but I still more clearly recall my first billion gold item sale in D3v than any legendary item I’ve actually *found* in Reaper of Souls. *heretic*
