| 12 May - Beating
the Butcher - BareNakedLady(BoJ) Even a low level character can beat The Butcher this way. First clear the level, then find the stairs down to level 3. Get The Butcher to chase you to the stairs, then lead him in circles around it until he gets stuck in the stairwell (He's not a smart monster). He has to be standing inside it, you have to be behind it. From there, he becomes a stationary target and you can fill him full of arrows. Don't try this on any other monster, The Butcher is the only one that I know of that will fall for such a cheesy trick. |
| 28 April -
Dealing with Zhar the Mad - Marco Zinn I met this mage when my monk had around level 16 or 17. I had quite a lot of mana due to a good magic value. But, no matter what I did, the guy kept grilling me all the time. Even a stone curse scroll did no good. Solution was: Drop your staff before going to the bookshelf, then get close to the mage and just kick him three or four time. Ups, that was it! Because the monk is so fast with his feet, the mage cannot cast anything, so he can't fire at you or phase away, if you are close enought. |
| 1 April -
Celia's quest - Kostas Anagnostopoulos I was playing in single player mode and I saved the game before returning Theodore to Celia. She gave me a Serpent's Amulet. Then I tried again, but this time I spoke to Adria first (hunch?). Well, after that Celia gave me a Garnet Amulet. I didn't try all the possible ( and there are a lot!) combinations, but if you speak to Cain before giving Theodore to Celia, you will receive an Amulet of the Heavens. All this on Diablo V.1.0, Hellfire V.1.1, single player mode. |
| 27 March -
Celia's rewards - Charles Cruden As far as amulets retrieved from Celia (she always gives amulets), I've gotten a jade amulet of the zodiac (resist all +29%, +17 to all, I kept that one :) and an amulet of perfection (+26 to dex). The first was on normal difficulty, the second on nightmare. |
| 23 Feb - Celia's
Rewards - F Pereira List of the 5 Amulets Celia gave to me: 1. Amulet Of The Tiger = Hit Points +42 2. Drake`s Amulet of The Heavens {Thanks God For This One!!) = +45 Mana & +15 All 3. Diamond Amulet = Resist Magic +59% 4. Amulet Of The Titans = +28 STR 5. Garnet Amulet = Resist fire +50% |
| 16 Feb - Demon Brain
quest - The Visionary I noticed Kevinc's little note about the demon brain quest on the patch page. I just finished the demon brain quest last night and I have the patch installed, for me the quest worked just as it always has, once you got the quest the brain will come from the first monster you kill upon entering the Caves again. |
| 8 Feb - Info on
Cowquest - Michel BRIAND I'm playing a bard and a monk in multiplayer game. I've noted that the Cowquest isn't availaible in multiplayer. Therefore the "Cowman" gives me the rune bomb yet. |
| 8 Feb - Kevinc's
1/17 "Brain quest" post - Wes AKA Cynic After you're given the request for a demon's brain by the healer, the next monster you kill will drop it. Monster type won't matter. Thing is, the brain is really small and nearly the same color as the cavern floor. You should be able to find it if you scan very carefully on the floor where you made the first kill after getting the request. Or, you can buy a search scroll to find it with. If you already tried all this and still can't find it, it may have something to do with the patch. My monk got that quest, but it was pre-patch/command.txt. |
| 5 Feb - Entering
the Crypts - Michael Llewellyn I'm not sure if this works in the single player game, but in multi-player, the Cathedral map is not needed. Just go up to the entrance of the Crypts, then click on the entrance again. This will give you access to the Crypts and next time you come up, it will be open. I have the first beta patch installed, so I don't know if it works with the 2nd and 3rd patch. |
| 17 Jan - Patch & the
Demon's Brain quest - Kevinc Patch works - mostly. one bug I noticed - when you get the demon's brain quest, you never find the brain! maybe the folks at sierra didn't have a model.... also noted that if you have previously installed the multiplayer patch, you need to re-install hellfire before you can load the sierra patch. the barbarian char. works fine at this point, and is the strongest fighter I've had in a year at this game! |
| 12 Jan - Order
of play - TeRR0RNauT first one thing : I play hellfire first from level 1 to level 16 and there I don't pull the last lever and then I start the new levels, they're a walk in the park but now the better tips get a bloody haste weapon Na-Krul is just to slow at recovering ( as well as the defiler ) and is death before you know it or if you're a sorcerer open the door cast a lightning or firewall and close the door....have fun barbecuing ..... |
| 12 Jan -
Jersey's Jersey - GN2125 For those of you who are looking for the cow suits on the Jersey's Jersey quest, I thought this could save you time. Use the search spell to find them! I spent nearly 45 minutes looking for these two camouflaged items (the grey and brown suits) until I started using the search spell. When I did find them, I found out why they were so hard to find, they perfectly blend in with the background! I'd also like to add, I've had no problems with the command.txt so far as some of you were mentioning. I'll let you know if I do. |
| 10 Jan - Grave Matters - Reza
Aminy I have found that after killing the Defiler, Gillian will give a new quest called Grave Matters. It seems that when you put a large sum of money in the cemetery and go to the cathedral and back, they money will be doubled. I have tried it several times but it didn't work. |
| 10 Jan - Potions
for Gold - Pestilence I'm not much of a duper but a while back I was experimenting on how to do this and I figured out a better way to dupe gold. This is only a gold dupe but it worx. Here's what you do. 1. Buy one potion of anything (you won't lose it). 2. Put potion in belt 3. Drop as much gold as you want (can be less that 75 if you're broke) 4. Open inventory and walk away until gold is at a tip of screen, the more space the better. 5. Click on gold and just before you pick it up click on gold 6. Your potion will fall to the floor, a pile of gold will go into your inventory, and you will have another potion as your mouse that is actually worth the same as the smallest gold pile in your inv. I found this out by freak coincidence when a guy was teaching me how to dupe the old fashioned way on Diablo Original. It's basically the same thing as old fashioned duping except you don't close your inv. and you don't have to buy more potions. Again.... ***This only worx with gold*** |
| 10 Jan - Na-Krul
- Patricia Kent I am playing a skill level 24 rouge and I recently took on Na-Krul in normal difficulty. In my opinion Na-Krul is overrated he only got off 4 or 5 hit on me then he died. And I didn't even read the books. My suggestion is if you are a rouge make sure you have a good bow. For a sorcerer and monk have a good fireball and at the very least phase. Since I haven't played the warrior yet but I bet he can duke it out hand to hand with Na-Krul if he has some sorta good armour and a good weapon. Also when Na-Krul dies he drops a book of apocalypse. The only character who con use to my knowledge is the sorcerer. |
| 8 Jan - Grave
Matters - Edward Rieck I haven't heard anybody mention the grave matters quest. You get it by going to see Gillian when you have the Cathedral Map from level four in your inventory. If you place the map on the catacomb entrance to enter the catacombs it goes away. I haven't figured the quest out though. |
| 6 Jan - Complete
Nut/Rune Bomb - Sabre The Complete Nut will give you the rune bomb if needed. I actually got a second bomb from him after Lester had already given it to me (I implemented the cowquest midway through my game). |
| 6 Jan -
command.txt modifier bugs - Mike Joyce I have been using the command.txt modifier file, and while "cowquest" does remove Lester the farmer, the Complete Nut will give you the Rune Bomb to open the Nest so you can go into "His Place" and get his suit for him. Just thought I'd mention that, because it doesn't restrict you from the new levels in Hellfire. |
| 6 Jan - Bovine
Plate - Ernie Toh I have managed to attain the Bovine Plate after completing the Jersey's Jersey quest. After starting a new quest, I realized my superb plate has turned into an Awesome Plate that has 43 armor point plus 144%. It is considered a unique item though and is indestructible. The funny thing was, when I move the mouse over it, it says, "Undead Crown - Armor Class 43 - Life Stealing". Is anyone getting this problem too? |
| 5 Jan - Answers -
Harelaquin The torn notes are found according to levels. The first torn note is on the first level and so on so forth. They are all just laying around, you don't have to kill anything to find them. After you get all 3, they automatically become the "Reconstructed Note" and you can read the Dark Mage's message about how to go about killing Na-Krul. Also, you can find 'Theodore' by killing the 'Hork Demon'. Theodore is the little girl's teddy bear. When you bring it back to her, you receive one random unidentified item. Also a hint on killing Boss monsters. Na-Krul has absolutely NO magic resistance or immunities. For all you sorcerers, just blitz him with fireballs. Any other demon such as Hork Demon are very susceptible to Stone Curse or Runes of Stone. They go down really easy, even for a Monk. |
| 5 Jan -
Transferring using CoW - Danny I haven't had the problems that Riona mentions in her post. All that needs to be done to transfer items between characters is for one character to put the desired item on the cornerstone, leave the crypt, save game, exit. New character loads his/her game, goes to the cornerstone and the item is there. It is necessary that each character leave the crypt area before saving and exiting the game. The only problem I've encountered is that some books will not transfer. Instead the second character picks up a rejuvenation potion, not a book. |
| 4 Jan - Ultimate
fighting tip for the Butcher - Brandon and Ben I used to use the grill thing but that sometimes did not work. This way works every time. First before you let him out know how to get to the stairs down. Then open it and make a run for the stairs. Go round the stairs from south to north and stay on the north side. The Butcher, if he was close enough to you will get caught in the stairs. Then you can use any spell on him because the spells go through the stairs. Then you can also make a town portal and to to town and he will stay there. This is the easiest way to fight him even if your are a low level. Firewall works well when he is trapped. If he does not get trapped just make another round till he is. |
| 4 Jan - Zhar the Mad
- Lakrull {21 lvl Warrior} A trick that I have found is that if you find Zhar the Mad close the door behind you. Then after you make him mad, before he has a chance to teleport and attack, get in a few hits. Now, if you can get him to teleport into a corner, give him a few hits and then he should disappear but he will reappear in the same sport making for an easy kill since you can hit him before he hits you. |
| 4 Jan - How to and
how not to kill Na-Krul, items for the Monk - Turd Head I wanted to commend Riona for her {?} tip as to how to kill Na-Krul. You had it exactly, I couldn't kill Na-Krul with my Monk by just pulling the lever and fighting him, but I took Riona's advice on which books to read, and I killed Na-Krul without getting hit once! Thanks a lot Riona. My advice is that when you use a Monk, choose weapons carefully, the Monk does very nice damage unarmed, the only problem is accuracy. If you can get your "To Hit" high, hand-to-hand is the way to go,unless you find a badass staff. One last tip, don't fight Diablo or Na-Krul with Doppelganger's staff of anything! It can become very frustrating when you have to kill 2 or 3 Diablos/Na-Kruls! Also I got an amulet of heavens from Celia when I returned Theodore, +14 to all stats. {read Riona's tip here} |
| 4 Jan - Incatations
translated - Ryan Arvidson Now my Latin is not the greatest since I have no one to speak to in the Latin language but I've translated the books to read: in spirita sanctum - In holy spirit efficio obitus ut inimicus - Render death when hostile praedictum otium - Declare peace I believe the Sorcerer in the trailer is the one writing the journals, these spells ease the demon, making him easier to kill. Although these are rough translations, I believe them to be very accurate. |
| 2 Jan - Killing
Na-Krul is easy! - DRK DRAXIS Ha ha ha ha! Its so funny to read how hard it is to kill Na-Krul. The truth is, he's a wuss! Learn to do the quest right! Don't Pull The Stupid Lever At All !!! Just read the books in order and the door will open. I had a level 27 Mage who killed him with 2 fireballs, because I did the quest right! I have also killed him in Nightmare diff. I'm still working on getting past those darn Arch-litches on hell diff. Also, here's another tip, just because. Get a bunch of gold. Go to the witch. Look for good books, e.g.: Immolation, Fireball, Nova etc. If there are none, go down cats. Then come back up and start at step 1 again. That's how I have lvl 12 fireball, lvl 4 Nova, and lvl 3 Immolation at lvl 27. Oh ok, 1 more tip. When Na-Krul gives you the book of Apocalypse. Read it once and find 10 Enchanted shrines. If luck is with you, you'll have lvl 9 or so Apoc. Ok, thats all. |
| 2 Jan -
Na-Krul's message - Jeremy Dunn I was playing Hellfire on nightmare with the command.txt option on. I was going to try my luck 1-1 with Na-Krul (mainly because I forgot how to open his door safely) He came out, and instead of the Usual "Out of my way Mortal, I seek retribution against the one called....Diablo" He said the damnedest thing.(I still can't understand all of it.) "Hi I'm free, free to kill the little Spanish kid Diablo. Hi I'm free to give you, little buddy, these backstage Aerosmith tickets, you'll get to meet Steve Tyler and the whole band. This week only at the Coliseum. Thanks for getting me out of there, unfortunately I'm gonna have to kill you. We'll be right back with the Traffic and Weather combined...Needless to say...this is weird..but funny. Again I couldn't understand him at some parts. I also hadn't gone into the Regular Dungeons at all, just the hellfire ones. I left the one Na-Krul note on the Cornerstone of the world, and changes the one I got this time into money(I had to dupe some money to get a book of Nova...sue me) |
| 1 Jan - Na-Krul,
Spell Books - Rob I've fought Na-Krul several times with different types of characters. After reading the tips, I think there must be some misunderstanding as to how to deal with the spell books. If the books are read in the correct order, the door to Na-Krul will open automatically. You never need to pull the lever. I've successfully defeated Na-Krul without much trouble after 'hobbling' him with the spells. Opening the doors with the lever allows him to attack at full strength. You can read the books as many times as needed to get the door open. It seems to randomize the order in which the books need to be read. I haven't paid much attention to the words displayed when the books are read, so there may be some correlation between the spell chant and the book order. Next mail from Rob;) I just hit the send button on my previous note when I noticed that Riona had the scenario exactly correct. I guess I missed it on my first scan of the Tips page. Way to go Riona. |
| 30 Dec - What to
do with the Torn Notes/Diablo2 wishlist - KJC The reconstructed note says basically this. The books in front of Na-Krul must be read in a specific order. {I found from far right to far left to work}. If they are not thrown in this order, and the switch is used instead, Na-Krul will not have been pacified. The pacification makes him about as hard to defeat as Diablo. If the switch thrown instead, he is a bastard to kill. It was fun playing Hellfire. I found it quite diverting from the usual Quake and other 3d shooters. I am also really looking forward to the release of Diablo II. On my wishlist is going to be: Much, much, much bigger levels - ones that take longer than ten minutes to go through. More players in a level. Better graphics and animations. Monsters with some degree of intelligence Better control over cheating in Battle.net. If it can be as much an improvement as Quake was over its predecessors, or even a fraction of that, it should be something. |
| 30 Dec - More on
"Complete Nut" - Larry Lemmons If you keep talking to the 'Complete Nut' he does have other things to say. He tells you to come back when you have reached a higher level, much like the farmer did. I've only had the game a few days so I haven't seen yet if he gives you access to the new levels as the farmer did. |
| 30 Dec - Na-Krul,
Reconstructed Note - Rex C Williams As for Na-Krul: I was having a helluva time taking on Na-Krul. I knew that the trick had to be in those books, but I couldn't get the right sequence down. I took the suggestion sent in by one of your subscribers and failed miserably. :-(( Ultimately, I was able to do it and it turned out effortless. I have to wonder if the reading sequence may not be random. Here's how I fared: Ortho {25th level sorcerer} read the book on the right first then the one on the left. Then I pull the lever and read the center book. I quickly cast a Lightning Wall {as Fire Wall seemed to be having no effect} and before I could change spells to begin my head-on attack, he was dead! -- I was also using Mana Shield and Reflect, but I don't know that it mattered that much because he was defeated so quickly. On another note; I found myself left with a Reconstructed Note and nothing to do with it. It's obvious that the only people to sell to {Adria and Griswold} aren't really *that* integrated with Hellfire. So, I couldn't sell it. I tried laying it outside Na-Krul's 'cell', but to no avail. Finally, I laid it on the Cornerstone of the World and was given this message: "And in the year of the golden light, it was so decreed that a great cathedral be raised. The cornerstone of the holy place was to be carved from the translucent stone Antyrael, named for the angel who shared his power with the Horadrim. In the year of the drawing shadows, the ground shook and the cathedral shattered and fell. As the building of catacombs and castles began and man stood against the ravages of the sin war, the ruins were scavenged for their stones. And so it was that the cornerstone vanished from the eyes of man. The
stone was of this world - - and of all worlds As light is both within all things
and beyond all things. Light and unity are the products of this holy foundation, a unity
of purpose and a unity of possession." |
| 29 Dec - Killing
Na-Krul - Bigtuna I am a level 26 Monk wearing Amber Plate of Precision, Saintly Helm of the Tiger and used Thundercall...had the Golem {lvl 3} by my side, read the books threw the level and Golem went in first {3 hits, he's gone}. I ran one circle around his "tomb" and sacrificed 3 Golems in the process. Created another Golem which stands by me - {have full belt of healing}. Square up face-to-face against Na-Krul whilst Golem attacks from behind, smack him with yer staff and Golem socks it to 'em on other side. I used only about 3-4 full healing potions whilst fighting him. What a rush! |
| 27 Dec - Na-Krul's
death - Al-Hazed I have finally made it to the fourth level of the Crypt in nightmare mode of the game. After clearing the level of everything but Na-Krul I prepared myself for the battle. I knew that the nightmare Na-Krul was going to be "beefed up" but I wasn't prepared for what the game threw at me. I have a level 33 Monk with a high level of magic ability but no matter what I had cast at him, he continued ripping me apart for a total of at least 20 times or more ( and yes I used the spell books to open the door - reflect also engaged ). Finally I devised a last ditch plan in the height of my fury of his beating me so much. I read the first two spell books and then proceeded to lay down a barrage of 15 to 20 lightning walls right in front of his door before reading the third. I stood in front of the lightning wall and read the third book. When the angry brute came out, he was forced to stand in the wall that I had prepared for him. Granted it took seven of my eight health potions and a lot of staff work, he finally fell in that glorious pool or red muck. I'm sure this isn't the only effective technique and I'm interested to see how my fellow adventurers are coping with this problem (because I am a bit frightened of what his temper will be in hell mode. HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL!!!! |
| 28 Dec - Cornerstone
of the World - Riona I've discovered that you can use the Cornerstone of the World to transfer items between characters! For example, transferring between a Warrior and the Monk: Warrior leaves armor at stone, then save game and start new game using the Monk (make sure it's the same difficulty level). Monk has to defeat the Defiler and gain entrance to the Crypt. The same armor can be found on the stone. Pick it up & make sure to save the game. When I return to the Warrior, the armor is still there and I can re-pick it up to use! Pretty cool. Only problem is the Monk has to restart a new game (defeat the Defiler again) to pick up another item from the Warrior again! |
