Various Tips - Koresh (Warrior) 34 Stop Teleporting Counselors Counselors' teleport puts them away from attacking person - to left, right or backward direction. So, just attack them and lead them to corner of room. Keep attacking Counselor, but keep corner behind him. He vanishes but comes back right under your sword. Good way to finish Lazarus without Stone Curse. Stay tuned, Diablo Diablo has realy apocalyptic enthusiasm and follows You at all costs. Lead him to up-right corner of the level, to the center of spiral corridor, then just phase off or teleport out. Diablo choses the shortest way and it's blocked by wall. Go back to town or finish other monsters in level without a worry. Recovering equipment If you are playing alone or all team gets' a little problame of death, it's highly recommended to have telekinesis spell. Get back in to the level and use telekinesis spell from afar. It works through the walls too. Too nasty level If Your team enters new level and You've got trouble at the beginning, it's good tactic to run a bit deeper in level in different directions. Use Town Portal and get back to town. Then Your team can rearrange forces and enter one of the portals. When monsters recognize you get back to the town and enter another portal. Keep surprising monsters to the death. Same surprise assoult can be performed alone at the first Cathedral's, Catacombs', Caves' or Hell's level using stairs from town as another portal. Stop killing each other It's recommended for new players to remember about specific spells. There are no monster shooting fireballs at first four levels, no monster using Flamewave at any level, etc. If team runs in different directions or is disconnected and someone shoots at you some powerfull spell or spells from afar, don't respond with the best of your spells, but hide behind wall and send message to other players stop it. If you are in battle use hotkeys (F9-F12) to ask stop these attacks. F9-F12 can me midified in Diablo.INI located in Diablo directory. |

"of thieves", the misunderstood suffix - Varaya Since nobody has written it yet in the forum or somewhere else, here's something not many people know: Try wearing a ring/amulet with the suffix "of thieves". Now why would you wear such a crappy item ? Well, because it is not crappy at all :-) "Of thieves" is supposed to only half the trap damage, but in fact it halves also all ranged and magical attacks. Yes, that _does_ mean that it halves all the damage you would receive from an arrow AND all ranged damage from the mages/witches/spitters in the hell levels. So this opens up new equipment thoughts: - wear a ring/amulet with "of thieves" in addition to an obsidian ring. This will mean half damage from magical attacks because of "of thieves" and then the remaining half will be reduced because of your resistance. Maybe you could even wear an item which reduces damage, because that reduction is done _after_ "of thieves" and resistance are calculated. On levels with only witches, you could even try wearing a scavenger's carapace, which will reduce the remaining damage all the way down to a min of 1 point. - ever been angry because Gotterdamerung reduces your resistances to zero ? Well, now you can have 50% resistance (of thieves) AND wear Gotterdamerung with all its great features (like +20 all) at the same time :-) (and you can then throw away your obs jewelry and put in zodiacs or whatever you always wanted to use) [Thanks to Crystalion(Snakegod) for finding this nice feature] -Varaya- |
| 12 May - Beating
the Butcher - BareNakedLady(BoJ) Even a low level character can beat The Butcher this way. First clear the level, then find the stairs down to level 3. Get The Butcher to chase you to the stairs, then lead him in circles around it until he gets stuck in the stairwell (He's not a smart monster). He has to be standing inside it, you have to be behind it. From there, he becomes a stationary target and you can fill him full of arrows. Don't try this on any other monster, The Butcher is the only one that I know of that will fall for such a cheesy trick. |
| 5 May - Building
up a character - Jeff, Warrior A good way to build new characters is to start a new game and load a more experienced character into the game with you. You can then kill the other character off and collect his gold and more advanced weapons. Then save your character and load it into a new game. You can do this several times until you have duplicated as much gold and weapons as you feel necessary. Remember, if say for example, your warrior has a powerful weapon that would be useless to a sorcerer you can still sell it over and over again. |

Killing Illusion Weavers & other unseen things that go bump in the night - V Harrison Believe it or not, I have found Charged Bolt to be an excellent way to kill the annoying unseen creatures. If you aren't too worried about your mana and you know that these creatures are roaming around, launch a few Charged Bolts down the corridor you are in. If there are any of these creatures in the room or corridor, Charged Bolt will find them. |

Dealing with Zhar the Mad - Marco Zinn I met this mage when my monk had around level 16 or 17. I had quite a lot of mana due to a good magic value. But, no matter what I did, the guy kept grilling me all the time. Even a stone curse scroll did no good. Solution was: Drop your staff before going to the bookshelf, then get close to the mage and just kick him three or four time. Ups, that was it! Because the monk is so fast with his feet, the mage cannot cast anything, so he can't fire at you or phase away, if you are close enought. |

Celia's reward- Marco Zinn I found Theo and brought him back to Celia, but before doing this, I saved the game. I got a Crystal Amulet (+41% Magic Resist.), which I found of no use at that time (My Monk was at level 16). So I loaded the game, went to Cain, then went to Celia. This time, I got an amulet of the Stars (+9 to all), which I kept. It seems to be somewhat random, which amulet you get from her. Another thing to this quest: I killed the Hork Demon, but couldn't find the toy. I searched the whole place over and over and was getting quite angry, because I thought, a bug made the toy disappear (Oh, my amulet!). But, then I found it in my inventory! It was quite a bit of action killing the Hork Demon and all the other monsters, and I must have collected the bear while fighting. Problem was: The damned Bear looked a bit like a pile of gold, when you only take a quike look in your inventory. So: If you can't find the teddy bear, have a GOOD look in your Inv! |
| 28 April - Potions
changing -Archimage The potion thing happened because it wanted to reserve the quests that gave u the uniques, and if u carry the uniques on yourself, they r destroyed and turned into potions (sometimes they ARE reserved, but not always so do not take chances while making a new game) .If u carry the m in your inventory and not on u, the stay, because it is not checking the inventory :-) . |
| 17 April - Giving
stuff to other characters in multi player - Damian, Level 10 Warrior Join a game another player created (trust this person). Throw the stuff on the ground you want to give to your other character. Exit the game and rejoin as another person. You can pick up the stuff you left on the ground. It is as simple as that! - Damian ( level 50 warrior) |
| 17 April - Using
Guardian on Bosses - Damian, Level 15 Warrior When you are expecting a boss enemy, use the guardian spell. You can let that do the work, when you change to chain lightening, and blast em. (remember to not let the boss see you, or it will chase you before you can change spells). |
| 15 April - Getting
Apocalypse was easy - Gourou, level 36 sorceror Well, I wanted to see how tough Nak-Krul was, so I decided to go and see him in normal mode. Thanks to my golems, he died and give me many great magic items and a book of apocalypse. I make some room in my inventory, get the stuff, and go back to town using a town portal. I sold the items, read the book, and go back to the crypt with my portal. And I see ... just an other book of apo ! I don't know if it is because I let some items in the room, but i picked up 20 books of apo this way (you can sell them 7500 to Adria, easy way for money !). I was playing in the multiplayer mode, with version 1.01. Tell me if you can do the same! About the Bovine Plate, I used it often, with an arch-angel's staff of sorcery to avoid the maluses. It is great enough. |

fastest way to get stuff from wirt - Tan Chee Wai I found out that you can actually get wirt to offer new stuff
without buying any unwanted stuff here's what you should do. |
| 8 April -
Gharbad the Weak - Juffo Wupp People have noted that Celia drops different amulets when you reload your game and perform different actions. The same is true of Gharbad the Weak. Save before you talk to him and load your game if you get something you don't want. Then, do something before going to him, like cast a spell or kill an enemy. He should drop a different item. I've gotten the "Wicked Axe", "Fools Crest", and "Wizardspike" as well as all sorts of other unique and valuable items. |
| 1 April -
Celia's quest - Kostas Anagnostopoulos I was playing in single player mode and I saved the game before returning Theodore to Celia. She gave me a Serpent's Amulet. Then I tried again, but this time I spoke to Adria first (hunch?). Well, after that Celia gave me a Garnet Amulet. I didn't try all the possible ( and there are a lot!) combinations, but if you speak to Cain before giving Theodore to Celia, you will receive an Amulet of the Heavens. All this on Diablo V.1.0, Hellfire V.1.1, single player mode. |

Barbarian - Hans Lind The barbarian is the perfect fighting machine indeed. I charged straight into Diablos chamber without first luring out his minions and had beaten him to a pulp before even using up two potions of healing, can anyone stop him. |
| 27 March -
Barbarian's resistance - George The Barbarian also increases his % resistance to all By one at each level up. |
| 27 March -
Celia's rewards & Apocalypse - Charles Cruden As far as amulets retrieved from Celia (she always gives amulets), I've gotten a jade amulet of the zodiac (resist all +29%, +17 to all, I kept that one :) and an amulet of perfection (+26 to dex). The first was on normal difficulty, the second on nightmare. Apocalypse appears to be a 'one level fits all' spell. I've put it up 5 levels with a level 37 mage, and the only time any of its stats changed was when the character went up a level. At level 5, it still costs 90 mana to cast, and currently does 37 to 222 points of damage (damage rises as the characters level does). Fortunately, nova and immolation don't succumb to the same problems. :) |
| 27 March -
Dealing with Na-Krul - Charles Cruden Immunities/resistances change depending on whether you open the door with the lever or with the books. If you open it with the lever, Na-Krul is resistant to all on all levels of difficulty. Nothing magical does him any harm, except reflect which still does damage if he hits you. Na-krul is immune to stone curse. If you open the door with the books, I'm not sure what his immunities are, but he is NOT immune to fire on normal or nightmare difficulty. |

Negative modifiers update - Richard D. Sarno After starting a new game, you can reactivate the negative modifier bug by dropping the item on the ground and having someone else pick it up look at it an drop it, the AC of 245 for scavengers returns. I also have a ring of dyslexia -5% to To Hit. with the negitive modifier bug it becomes +65531% increase in To hit. But I question if the altered AC of the Gnarled root, the Scavengers Caraprice and the ring really have that effect on your character. I have all three and I still miss and I still get hit even with my AC being over 600 and my to Hit being at 65531%. |
| 11 March - Don't
walk around in a battle - Gourou, Level 26 Sorceror If you play in a team with rogues and sorcerors, use the shift key to fight monsters in close combat, and let sorcerors and rogues take care of fothcoming monsters, so they can adjust their spells and arrows to prevent hurting you. |

Freeze you rage! - Bloodbrood If you cast the rage skill then go back up to town the bonuses you recieve from the rage skill will freeze. |
| 11 March -
Gnarled Root - Alex Knapp I have made a discovery in Hellfire. Note: this happened in the
Modified Version of Hellfire in Multiplayer. |
| 11 March - Black
Death sucks the like out of you! - Killer A friend of mine just showed me the other day that if a black death...you know the zombie's that are yellow...damages you. You loose a hp PERMANENTLY. This is on DIABLO... haven't checked helfire but... sheeze and I haven't seen this on any FAQ or nothing. |

Hellfire Negative Modifiers - Jayhawk Just another two bits of wisdom. We had a little adventure with the negative modifier bug last Friday. We were playing a three character multiplayer game and found the Scavenger's Carapace. Right as rain it was identified by our Bard as the Scavenger's with an AC of 246 (somebody else picked it up first) Happy with this massive AC the bard sold her Godly plate to Griswold and after killing Diablo (normal mode) we jumped to a new game. Guess who was verry sorry for selling that Godly plate? Yes, the Bard as the Carapace had now stabelised to its original -15 AC modifier. We haven's seen any weapons with a negative to hit modifier, so I don't know what happens to them once you start a new game, but you might want to rethink selling your regular items after finding one of these 'bugged' items. |
| 28 Feb - Yet another
way to kill the Butcher - Tom Jones The Butcher is really dumb and cannot open doors! Locate a room near his lair that has iron grates, you will need a bow. Make sure that you have not been fighting here because if the door is blocked, this will not work. Open his lair and allow him to chase you into that room but shut the door before he gets in. He cannot open the door, he is too dumb, and will pace outside of the grill work trying to get to you. Take a bow and shoot him through the grill work. Keep shooting, it takes a bit but he will go down. |
| 23 Feb - Negative
modifiers bug - Dalmor I've seen lots of posts about "super" unique items, and some of you may have put it all together and figured this out, but I'll post this for you new players out there (as well as for Synergistic, if they want to do another patch). There is a bug in the game which wraps around negative modifiers on all items (in all patch versions, AFAIK). All items which formerly gave minus percent to hit or to AC will now give a huge positive bonus; for example, a gnarled root gives -6 AC. Due to the bug, if the item is left in town and the owner goes down and then back up OR the item is dropped and someone else picks it up (in multiplayer) the AC will now be 256-6, or +250 AC. Items with minus to hit (for example ,a Dull sword, -5% to hit) will now give 65536-5, or +65531% to hit. Unique items with this bug include the Celestial Star, Gnarled Root, Scavenger's Carapace, Holy Defender, etc. As well as all (formerly) cursed items. So now all your old BNM equipment is suddenly in demand. (heh) I haven't confirmed if this bug extends to items with -x to all attributes (Doombringer, plate of trouble, etc) or to items with -x damage. If so, I'd expect Doombringer to now give +251 to all attributes, which might cause corrupted characters, like the Diablo plate on battle.net. |
| 23 Feb - Glowing,
Oil and Eerie Shrines - Charles Cruden The Glowing shrine doesn't just work on -5% experience. There appears to be a minimum number of XP deducted. I tried using one with a 2nd level character who went from 4600 XP to 0 XP after using it. The Oily shrine, that it casts a small ring of fire around the shrine directly on the person who uses it. Hence the 'that which does not kill you' message. Finally, with the original Diablo shrines, the Eerie shrine also permanently sucks mana. |
| 23 Feb - Celia's
Rewards - F Pereira List of the 5 Amulets Celia gave to me: 1. Amulet Of The Tiger = Hit Points +42 2. Drake`s Amulet of The Heavens {Thanks God For This One!!) = +45 Mana & +15 All 3. Diamond Amulet = Resist Magic +59% 4. Amulet Of The Titans = +28 STR 5. Garnet Amulet = Resist fire +50% |
| 23 Feb - Disposing
of King Leoric - Vamina, Rogue To defeat him, I like to use the Golems. Send out abut three or four of them. They'll help take care of the skeletons. Then, it's always good to cast the holy bolt spell at King Leoric. When your Golems are gone, there will be a couple of skeletons left. But there really easy to kill. |
| 22 Feb - Punishment
for using Flux's Shopping Advice - Shannon & Paul Burkhard I have been using Flux's advice for shopping for items in Hellfire. I am currently carrying a King's Great Axe of Blood, King's War Staff of Haste, King's Maul of Haste, Godly Plate, Godly Shield, King's Bastard Sword of Haste and King's Bastard Sword of Heavens as a Bard. Both Gris and Wirt are constantly giving me great items. Dragon's Zodiac Rings are common, King's items are prolific. Wirt even sold me a Merciless Bow of the Heavens: 1-14 +161 percent damage, +15 all. So, that works great. The only problem is the dungeon now yields next to nothing. I have been finding magic rags, magic quilted armor, rings of power, stuff like that in hell/hell. I suppose that the game looks at your items in inventory and uses an inverse relationship when stocking the dungeon: if you have great items in inventory. there will be great stuff for sale, but next to nothing to find in the dungeon. Oh, well, maybe I'll drop all of my stuff, save my game and start the hunt all over again! Read Flux's Tip |
| 20 Feb - Reading Bug
- Heath Thede While playing as a Barbarian in the Chamber of Bone, I read the book that gives you the guardian spell, and it took away all of my town portal scrolls. The instant I read the book, all 5 of my scrolls disappeared! |
| 20 Feb - Defender -
Dave Alexander I found an unique sword called Defender. It does the same as the Gnarled Root and the ring for multi player in Hellfire. When 2 people touch it it gives 65532% to hit. |
| 17 Feb - Finding and
taking care of boss monsters (including Lazarus) - Black-Razor, Rogue Boss monsters are surrounded by light, and this can be seen even if the boss isn't in line of sight. Low level characters can definately live longer by paying attention to these lights because they show where the bosses are without opening a door. Also, if using missile weapons, players can hit the bosses that go invisible at a distance... just shoot in the area of the light. Lazarus is easy to find because he and two other bosses are in the same area, this gives plenty of warning before entering his area. P.S. If you expect a big battle with bosses or lazarus or even diablo, then make a town portal, in case retreat is necessary. |
