Few more updates

Added info about the changes to the Bovine plate {post patch} in the Items section.  Also more pics and damage details in the weapons section. - Sky'ree+

Holland updates

On the release of Sierra's patch it was found that Hellfire God by Holland Holt needed to be tweaked a bit.   Holland has tested this himself and can vouch that the new version 1.0.21 does indeed work...

It may have been a problem when the program didn't get the info on its own, now it does. It also didn't work with the patch, but now it does....

- Updated prefix/suffix item fields, updated class codes
- added detection for new Hellfire patch
- now works on Hellfire Patch version too.
- fixed command.txt and added the barbarian test
- added barbarian to classes

Download HellfireGod {89kb}

Barbarian indepth

The Characters In-depth page has been updated to include the Barbarian, with a new section comparing the different skills of the Barbarian. - TeRR0NauT

Server upgrades

You may have experienced problems connecting to this page earlier.  This was because the server was shut down at various times as we were installing a new web server.  Apologies for any inconvenience this caused. - Elly

Updated file

KevenC has sent along an updated version of the dll {75kb} and you can download this here.  This is now also in the files and patch details pages.

Workaround

It seems that maybe updating with the hacked dll files may not be needed at all as Klaw explains...

"In the directions you guys said that you have to reinstall hellfire. Well you don't all you have to do is run the Sierra update then (it will not get to 100% but it updates enough) then you can get the barbarian using the command.txt and multiplayer using the multiplayer patch."

Site changes

As you'll see I've ditched the graphic nav bar.  Whilst nicer to look at than text it was getting to the stage where I couldn't fit any more on it.  Who'd have known an eight level add on could create so many different pages - apparently not me.  I have other pages that I'm working on separately too with the help of various visitors and their Diablo knowledge in particular areas so these would also need adding soon.  As always, let me know what you think. Thanks - Elly.

- I have also rehashed the 'Files' page into various sections and put the hellfire.zip file in their which contains the exe and dll files needed.  Using this file I managed to patch my version of HF earlier today.  I had previously been getting the message "C:\SIERRA\HELLFIRE\HELLFIRE.EXE is not a valid previous version and could not be upgraded" which a lot of other people were getting.   I unzipped the hellfire.zip and replaced the two files and then it patched fine.   I then updated my command.txt file with the barbarian and stuck that in the Hellfire directory too.  So now I have everything, apart from Multiplayer.

- Also new in the 'Files' section is Conan the Barbarian with the Butcher's cleaver, the Barbarian weapon.   Thanks to TeRR0NauT for sending him in.

New patch!

- Nitrokid has made a new patch upgrading his one on this site earlier....

I have made a new hacked version of the hellfrui.dll, this one gives you the Hive, Crypt, and the Barbarian in multiplayer.   This only works if you use the Sierra patch and must enter barbariantest in the command.txt.

Take the file from here {75kb}

Cendant visit

- I forgot to say on Friday but on 28th January Cendant Software, formally CUC will be coming up to see me.  Amongst other things I will be bringing up Hellfire and Diablo2, so if you have any queries etc you'd like me to pass on please forward them to me and I will pass them on. Don't expect anything too juicy about Diablo 2 though as we are so far away from it's release I'm sure much is not releasable yet.

Forum

- After receiving requests that a forum be put up for everyone to discuss Hellfire I finally got round to getting one active.  I hope that this will prove a useful part of this site for discussing problems, tactics and general Diablo/Hellfire gameplay.  You will notice that the forum post the newest at the bottom, this is something that I will hope to fix soon so it posts the newest at the top. Go here to start posting!

Euro version

- This just in from glider...

I asked people who had already installed the patch to send me their version of hellfire.exe... I never thought I could make things work that way, but luckily there still are people willing to help others in trouble! So I was sent the exe and hellfrui.dll by eaglewerk and after I replaced my files with the ones he sent me everything worked out just fine!!!  I guess the patch couldn't be installed in the UK version...

For those of you having the same problem download this. All you have to do is replace your old files with these. Good luck.  I have to try hellfire with the new patch installed now!!!

Once more, thanks to anyone that was willing to help...

If you get 'login denied' it's because the server is busy with users so you'll have to try later I'm afraid.

Fixes

- Just to let you know there are plenty of helpful suggestions regarding the patch and multiplayer in the Player's Tips.  We are still awaiting the fix for the European version of Hellfire and it will posted on the site as soon as it comes in.

Barbarian

- Okay, I've put up a Barbarian's profile page where we'll put all the details we find about him.  So far TeRR0NauT CaptainG have filled in a few gaps and anything else you find out about him you can send in here.  I've also entered the details we have so far in the Character Indepth page so you can easily compare him to our existing 5 characters. I can see that navbar at the bottom is going to have to be redone again as the overflow menu at the top left is beginning to get a bit too long.

Multiplayer file

- Nitrokid has come up with a file that will allow multiplayer capabilities, here's what he says.....

I found out that you can now play multiplayer in the hive and crypt by using the new Hellfire patch ver 1.01 and using the hacked ver of the hellfrui.dll from the multiplayer patch(blhhfmp.zip). This works but you will not get the new character Barbarian.

And one mail in from Schmendrick who has done some testing using Nitrokid's patch.....

When placed in the Hellfire directory after the patch is installed, it ables the multiplayer function and both the Hives and Crypt accessibility. I just finished installing it, and can vouch that it works as promised. I haven't test everything that the patch promised(I was very executed that I could get into the Hives in multiplayer, I had to tell everyone about it), but I will try to give it a full run around the block.

Download the file here {101kb}.

Any ideas?

- Mike Best & Glider have written in with a problem they are having with their installation of the patch.  This is exactly the same message as I received and as yet have been unable to update my version of HF with the patch....

I tried to install the patch but...not any luck at all. I kept getting the message: The file C:\SIERRA\HELLFIRE\HELLFIRE.EXE is not a valid previous version and could not be upgraded. Any ideas of what might be getting wrong?

Any ideas folks? Mail them in here. Thanks

Getting back multiplayer

- Big complaint about the patch has been the fact that it disables multiplayer.   Kenetic+Energy has given us the solution to that with this.....

1st of all u need 3 files, the original hellfrui.dll from hf cd, the new sierra patch, and the hacked multiplayer patch. To make it easy for everyone, due to the fact it will depend on whether or not thay used the hacked multiplayer patch before or not, it is better if everyone follows these instructions.

1. backup HF chars
2. reinstall HF, overwriting all files.
3. copy hellfrui.dll from hellfire folder to a new folder on the desktop
4. copy hacked patch into the same new folder on the desktop that u just copied the hellfrui.dll
5. run the hacked patch in the new folder on desktop.
6. copy the new sierra patch into the hellfire folder.
7. copy the hellfrui.dll file from the new folder on desktop to hellfire folder overwriting the the original.
8. run hellfire and watch bottom left of screen where u choose single or multi for version number, if it says 1.0A, it worked.

In the files section you will find a Hellfire First Aid Kit which you can use to back up your characters.  Thanks to David for this which will be archived in the 'Game manipulation' section of 'Player's Tips' for future reference. Garry Bergeron has also forwarded in details by Moxie of getting mulitplayer over Kali and these can also be found in 'Player's Tips'.

A note to site masters

- Over the past few weeks and especially since the Diablo 2 site has gone live I have received no fewer than thirteen requests from various Diablo 2 sites wishing to use the information contained both on the Hellfire and the Diablo 2 site.  Whilst I would certainly like the information to be available to all the Diablo community I am naturally concerned that all the hard work visitors to this site and myself have put in to building this resource will become a secondary concern to the site master's  'thirst' for information.

I have written back to most of the sites but I am also putting something on here to new sites that are visiting to ask that if you do decided to use information from either of these sites that credit and a link back to the source is given, clearly. Thanks.

More patch feedback

- Well we've had more feedback on the patch.  Some good, some not so good.  Firstly we had feedback from Reefman who said he managed a 2 player game in Kali - post patch installation.  Then mails started coming in saying that the patch disables multiplayer but allows you to enter a new command.txt including barbariantest to enable a new character, the Barbarian.  So we have some conflicting information here.  It also prevents duping which must be what Sierra meant by "Various small internal fixes to prevent potential misbehavior." in their Patch details.

Feedback is in Player's Tips section together with some initial findings on the Barbarian.

Above all - back up your character first! Use the first aid kit in the files section.  I'd recommend this before installing any patches, especially with that horrid word 'beta' after it.

More on New Character

- An update to the report of earlier today on the new character, Barbarian.  This from Spekkio..

Other info, Barbarian can attack multiple enemies when using 2 hand weapons (or at least axes). he has a max magic of 0, and a max dex of 40. But he uses all melee weapons very fast, including Axes!! He uses the warriors graphics, and is generally neat. His skill is Rage, which increase your stats for a time, however it does weird things to your life. Likewise the 0 magic thing causes a few weird things. Nothing to get too worries about.

Excellent Patch feedback

- Reefman of #diablo irc channel was testing out the new 1.01 patch last night whilst in channel and apparently this now allows you to enter the Hives in multiplayer mode.  He had two characters in the game simultaneously {over Kali} and both successfully entered the Hive and fought.  Do we have lift off on multiplayer - let's hope so.  Thanks to Reefman for testing this all out.

New Character

- Okay so we have the Warrior, Rogue, Sorcerer, Monk, Bard - do we need another character?  Enter the Barbarian swelling the character pot to a whopping six. This uses the Warrior character sprite and can hit multiple enemies
when not using a shield, and has little or no magic skill.  If you'd like to see this add barbariantest to a command.txt file.  I tried this myself but alas I came up with a big fat zilch.  I thought I'd pass it on anyway as someone out there may have better luck than me as I didn't have that much time to try.  Thanks to Spekkio for passing on this info.

Patch

- A patch v1.01 beta {226kb} has been released by Sierra.  If you'd like to know more details of what it fixes go here and to download click here.  Any feedback on the patch, please send it in here. Thanks

Hellfire God

- Over the past few weeks I have been receiving many mails on the problems people are experiencing with this trainer.  I have not installed it so am unfamiliar with the errors you are experiencing.  Can I ask that if you do come across anything that you mail Holland W Holt {author} direct who will be much more familiar with his creation than me.  Thanks.

Screenshots

-  I've added some pics which Flux took from a game the other night.  You'll see that he had his fun enhancing Doppelganger with him as eight, yes eight Diablos move in for the kill.  Incidentally clone of uniques with Doppelganger items will be fixed with the imminent release of the official patch.

Diablo 2

- I'm pleased to let folk know that the Diablo 2 site has now gone on line.  It was my intention to have this site up in a few months time but I was forwarded some information by Blizzard yesterday and rather than just sit on it I booted up Photoshop and got stuck in.  You can visit the site here.  As always feedback and suggestions are welcome - I'll even take constructive criticism.  So take a gander and drop me a line.  Thanks, Elly.

Tuesday 13 January 1998

Updates

- Earlier today I posted a message from Paul Roscoe regarding the Monks spell levels and some replies to his queries have been put into the Player's Tips.

Bug fix?

- I've just re-read the Official Patch details and I noticed something I'd missed yesterday "Fixed doppelganger's items to not clone Diablo".  In my opinion that's not a bug that's damn good feature.

A doppelganger produces a clone of a monster and I'm not sure how cloning Diablo can be considered a bug - if it's good enough for lesser monsters where's the problem?  If you're not up for a mass onslaught of a pack of Diablos simply do not use a doppelganger.   I know that some people, myself included relish stacking the odds against themselves - just take a look at Gerald Roberts who decided that he was definitely a 3 Shredded Wheat a day man.

Uniques/Location

- I've gone through the list on the Uniques/Location page and compiled the top three items, level and difficulty settings:

1. Gladiator's Ring = 11, Best level Hell, Nightmare difficulty
2. Acolytes Amulet = 11, Best level Hive, Normal difficulty
3. Gnatsing Bow = 8, Best level Hell, Nightmare difficulty

The Top Three will permanently sit above the table containing all your submissions and I'll amend it as and when positioning changes.

Hot property!

- I'm pleased to let everyone know that Reality X's Hellfire site has been named the Hot Hell Site by Sierra which is no small thanks to the continuing support of the Diablo community and their submissions to this site.  It shows even the big-boys know a good thing when they see it.  So thanks and well done everyone.

Hellfire sneaks into Top 10

- PC Data's latest report shows that Hellfire has snuck in the charts at number nine which is not bad at all for an add-on disc.  PC Data's statistics are based on game sales as opposed to many charts which rely on gamers voting.

Monk's Spell level

- Here's something I thought should be on the front page as well as the Player's page.   Paul Roscoe writes in with this query...

Just something I've noticed about the monk but I haven't noticed about the other classes. When reading a spell book none of the spell's stats (mana, damage) change after the spell level 6. A character of mine has level 12 mana shield it takes 33 mana to cast just the same as it did on spell level 6.

Have I missed something previously or is it something new? I haven't tried the bard character yet.

When I received this mail I booted up Hellfire and visited Adria who was offering me Chain Lighting so I bought one of these and duped it a few times, in the interest of research you understand ;).  My CL was at one to start with and at Mana 22, next book it went to 21, next book it stayed at 21 and next book taking it to a level four spell decreased mana to 20.  Unfortunately I couldn't read any more as my magic wasn't high enough.

I had thought the mana used decreased with each reading of a book but perhaps not.   Certainly Paul Roscoe's experience of it not decreasing between 6 and 12 seems strange.  Any info on this?

Demon Crypts in multiplayer?

- Has anyone tried to access the Demon Crypts in a multiplayer game?  I realise you need to have completed the Hive to get the Cathedral Map to do that but you could always get the map by completing the Hive in Single Player then convert your character to a multiplayer game complete with the Map.  I'm wondering if it's just a problem with the Hive itself and that maybe the 'trigger' for the Demon Crypts would be unaffected.   At least this means you could complete the Hives multiplayer.  Take a Doppelganger staff down to Na-Krul, multiply him....it's just an idea.  If you've been there, done that drop me a line and let me know if this is yet another not so cunning plan.

Updates

- Ernie AKA DroolMAN! has sent in more details on Hell difficulty Monster's stats and Chris Weber has filled in some more for Nightmare difficulty.

- Darkblade's review of Hellfire has been added to the Player's Reviews section.

- I have added more Uniques/Location which have been coming in over the past few days.

- Curtis Johnson has been in contact with Sierra regarding an official multiplayer patch and I've added one of his mails to a page listing details of the an imminent patch from Sierra which will be addressing bugs but unfortunately not activating multiplayer capability.  Read all this  here.   You will notice that Bob Clardy says "we are doing very, very few game enhancements at this time".   Now if I were a 'picky' person I'd say that meant they were planning some game enhancements or else he would have used the word 'none' but as I'm not a picky person I won't say that and start a rumour ;)

Try this maybe...

- This from Ironskull...

I was reading a post told about a guy that was playing Diablo at 7:30 - 8:00 pm, and that he got 2 unique items in every level of hell except 16 of course, because there can only be one unique monster in level 16, so anyway, there was this reply from another guy that was playing between the same time and got a whole bunch of uniques too, weird huh? It seems that the game puts better items at some times because it's programming makes randomness that way. After some guys read the post, they used a program that stopped the system clock and they played a game in the three difficulties, and the dungeon was absolutely the same in the three difficulties, so Diablo and Hellfire use the time to randomize everything.

I'll turn my system clock to 7:30 and see the result. :)

If anyone changes their system clock and puts this to the test, please drop me a line and let me know if there is any connection between time and uniques appearing.

Updates

- No updates yesterday as I got caught up with Lords of Magic, another RPG due for release by Sierra.  It's really very good, hence the reason I was off the updates yesterday.   Anyway here are the details of Lords of Magic straight from the back of the box for those interested...

• 8 strongholds to conquer, each fiercely protected by a unique race.
• Combat creatures from skeletons to dragons and up to 80 others using fantastic spells, artifacts, and weapons.
• 3-D game map with 16- bit SVGA graphics and a powerful map editor puts you in control of terrain, topography, and texture.
• Choose from 24 different characters to represent you in your epic quest.
• Each champion has a unique portrait, characteristics, and abilities that increase with experience.
• Confront Balkoth as a lone warrior or ally yourself with up to 4 players via LAN or Internet.  Even choose to battle all others as the Dark Lord himself.

This game has been released States-side and is due out in the UK next week.

Files

- Stu has sent over a program he's made which will allow you to import and export items using the Cornerstone of the World.  You will require Visual Basic 5.0 Run Time module {1mb} which you can get here. Download Stu's prog {13kb} here. I've added all this to the 'files' page also.

Updates

- There's now a pic and full details of the Armour of Gloom thanks to AMAKUSA718.  Oil of Accuracy bit's added by  Puck71.  Various updates on the Uniques/Location and Player's Tips also.

Reviews

- Chris Weber and Pestilence have sent in their reviews of Hellfire and you can view them here. I have added a link to the top left where these will be stored.  Thanks for those two and if anyone else fancies putting their opinion down on paper, send it in and we'll get that online too.

Monsters in Hell

- Ernie and Chris Weber have kindly filled in many of the missing stats for the Monsters in both sets of new levels. These are for Hell difficulty games.  The monster pages are now beginning to fill out and we can more easily begin to compare the new monsters with the ones we're used to. You can view them here.

Friday 9 January 1998

Hellfire FAQ

- TeRR0NauT has also forwarded  a copy of the The Forger's HellFire FAQ v2. Previously covering just Diablo, this FAQ now includes Hellfire.  Many thanks to him for sending all this stuff along. You can read the FAQ here and a link to it will remain at the top left menu of this page.

Review

- Can I ask if anyone comes across any Hellfire reviews that you let me know the url where I can pick them up.  I'd like to have links to some more in addition to our own review here.

Also if any of you fancy putting together a few paragraphs on what you think of Hellfire in general {new monsters, new levels, improved single player?, that sort of thing} then send them along too.  It would be interesting to see what the Diablo community think of this add on.

Characters In-depth

- TeRR0NauT sent in a huge mail covering information that die hard Diabloians will enjoy.  The information I have added to the site so far can be found in the Monster pages and also a new page entitled Characters In-depth

This covers all five characters Starting stats,  Maximum stats,  AC & To Hit, Damage, Life & Mana & Swing speed.  Set out in tables you can easily compare the various aspects of all five characters.  I will be adding more of TeRR0NauT's info when I get some more time.

Thursday 8 January 1998

Quests

- I have gone through all the submissions regarding the quests and compiled the findings to give a more thorough description of how to complete all eight.

Files

- Brian OBara has kindly sent in another Hellfire backup prog {25kb} and you can download that here.   Riona has forwarded on a HellFire Hacking Utility Beta 1 {35kb}, note that it only works in Win95 though.  Download here.

Wednesday 7 January 1998

Updates

- I've added an entry for the Oily Shrine and how it affects the Bard.  The oily shrine adds 2 to your primary stats and in the case of the Bard that's +1 Dexterity and +1 Magic. Thanks to Timothy J Judd for this info.

- Sabre sent in a whole assortment of info he's found - Nightmare dif Monster details, Jester info and an assortment of Player's Tips so thanks to him for that. I've not started a Hellfire game in Hell difficulty yet so the stats for that setting are very sketchy, if anyone has any details on that please send them in.

Safe backup

- Mike from Sweden has informed me that the Diablo first aid kit I received yesterday doesn't actually work with HF and has sent me another one by the same author.  Diablo Multiplayer First Aid Version 2.0 {21kb}. Here's what the author says.....

Support for Hellfire! If you have the (unsupported by Sierra) multiplayer mode enabled in Hellfire, DiabAid can back up those characters as easily as Diablo characters. This includes a new command-line switch, -h, that enables Hellfire mode.

This version will also show you how many characters you have backed up.  I've replaced the entry in the 'files' section with this new one. Thanks for sending that in Mike.

Command.txt - Items & Skeleton King

- Ernie Toh wrote in {6 Jan} about the glitches he was experiencing with his Bovine plate's description and graphic.  A lot of people have been experiencing the same thing as Brandon Johnson explains too..

I've got the Lachdanan quest while in Normal difficulty for Hellfire. From him I got the Veil of Steel. When I started a new Hell Difficulty game with my character, I noticed that my Veil of Steel's picture had changed to chain mail. I ran my mouse over it, and in the menu box, it said in gold lettering "Glorious Mail; Armor 43; +89% to AC". But in the Unique Item text box it read, "Butcher's Cleaver; +0 to Str; Altered durability, unusual item damage". After I took off my new mail-helm, I could never put it on my head again.

and there are plenty more mails like Brandon & Ernie's too.  One common thread is that they had added the command.txt modifier.  Chair has written in to say although he used the modifier he only had bardtest;multitest; included and still experienced problems with his Veil of Steel and even after deleting the file entirely he's still experiencing problems.  I've received no mails saying that problems are occurring to non modified games so it appears not the be a bug in the game.

- One other glitch with using the modifier found by a few folk is the lack of the Skeleton King quest and of course the unique you get when you've killed him.  I'm not sure if this is the case with everyone though.  You'll have to weigh up whether it's worth sacrificing the SK quest for the Complete Nut and Celia/Theodore quests before adding the modifier.

Tuesday 6 January 1998

Updates

-  Riona Yamamoto has forwarded on a copy of a Hellfire character back- up utility v 1.2.1 (45kb}.   The backup box comes up Diablo Multiplayer First Aid Utility but it is meant to work with Hellfire also {possibly only mulitplayer}.  Neither Riona or I have tested it so we can't vouch for it's stability in any way.

- Riona also mailed in in a state of excitement at a character file she downloaded.....

I came across this super-duper Rogue character and it's awesome! This babe is awesome; stats are not high but she has all the latest unique bows hacked into rings and amulets! I'm dazzled by the way she shoots out 3 fireballs or 3 lightning streaks at the monsters at one go! If only I could get my hands on a Windforce..... Please note that I had to start a new game for the character to work.

Anyway, you can grab a copy of   'queenbow_rogue' {102kb} as she's known by clicking here.

- Puck71 has sent in some more info, this time on Demon Crypt monsters (Hellbat, Bone Demon, Biclops).  He also sent in a pic of an Obsidian Ring of Zodiac which I know we are all familiar with but this one has Resist all 37% and +18 to all attributes.  Now, I used to have a couple of OroZ but I never remember them being as good as that.  Perhaps I just wasn't lucky enough to find them or perhaps the OroZs have been upgraded?

Bovine plate help

- Ernie Toh has written in asking if anyone else if having problems with their Bovine plate....

I have managed to attain the Bovine Plate after completing the Jersey's Jersey quest. After starting a new quest, I realized my superb plate has turned into an Awesome Plate that has 43 armor point plus 144%. It is considered a unique item though and is indestructible. The funny thing was, when I move the mouse over it, it says, "Undead Crown - Armor Class 43 - Life Stealing". Is anyone getting this problem too?

Looking back at the archives of the submissions it does seem that there are some anomalies with equipment descriptions & graphics but it appears to be confined to command.txt modified games.  If you experienced this type of thing let us know and don't forget to say whether you have command.txt installed too so we can see if it's a genuine bug of some sort.

Bard's multiple attacks

- Christopher Weber submitted a tip on 4 Jan pointing out that the Bard can attack more than one monster at a time.  Michael Llewellyn has written in with some more observations on this excellent feature:

I have experimented with the Bard and have a level 39 Bard now.  Following up on Christopher Weber's Bard attacks, yes, the Bard can attack up to 3 monsters at once.

One thing to be aware of though.  The Bard can only do this multiple attack if she is using 2 of the same weapons.  I haven't experimented with anything other than swords, but presume it would work as long as both weapons were the same {2 flails, 2 maces, etc.)   If you mix weapons {sword and mace, sword and flail, etc.} you don't get the bonus of hitting multiple monsters.

So consider this when kitting out your Bard.

Uniques

- Over the past week people have been sending in details of where they have been finding uniques.  These have been included in the Player's Tips section but I have also compiled a separate list detailing the weapons and location and you can view this here.   I will continually add to this list but won't put a news item on the front each time I update it.

Player's Tips

- As the list gets longer and longer the info that you have been sending in is in danger of being lost in long pages of archives.  In order that newer visitors to the site can have easier access to your findings I have set up additional specific pages where older stuff will be stored.  The most recent tips will be kept on the Player's Tips page and when they have been there say about a week I will shift them to the appropriate section.  The sections are:

Battle tactics and cunning plans - Player's tips/advice on combat, weapon/items/monsters.
  Quests - Player's tips/advice on quests.
Game manipulation - Duping, trainers, patches, techy stuff.

Monday 5 January 1998

Updates - Monsters

- I've added the stats to the Arch Lich and a new monster name sent in by Jeff Issac called the Bone Demon.  It's found in the Demon Cyrpts and although no stats are known yet it looks similar to the Skullwing but is faster and shoots balls of something or other at you which can be pretty devasting.  I've not run into any of these yet, that I can remember. I've also included in the Player's section some details of a unique mana potion which Jeff came across - seems a bit buggy to me.

- Oils

- You're all familiar with the suffix 'of ages' well now you can get it in an oil.  Ben came across a bottle which makes an item's durability indestructible.  Desperately need one of those for my armour which is soaking up my gold in repairs at the moment:(

Sparkling Shrine

- I had got the Sparkling Shrine down as adding 1000xps but Peter Dimpudus has looked a bit closer at this shrine and realised that there's a bit more to it than that...

I think I know what determines the amount of experience you receive from a sparkling shrine, namely the level you are currently in.  You get 1000 xp in level 1, 2000 xp in level 2, etc.  I verified this in levels 2, 3 and 14.

Get your hands on Diablo's goodies

- Peter Dimpudus also shares some info he's discovered for collecting any items Diablo may drop.

You probably noticed that Diablo drops an item from time to time when you kill him, but you can never get it because the screen is 'frozen'.  Well, now there is a way to get it.

This is what you do:

- Make sure you hae enough open space in your inventory
- Create a town portal near Diablo's Lair
- Lure Diablo out with Holy Bolt
- Kill him :)
- While Diablo is gushing blood click on the item {you will not move} and quickly save the current game.
- Enjoy the end movie
- Now you load the game you just saved
- You will see Diablo spray blood, but this time your character will move and pick up the item.  When he has it get the hell into the town portal.

BTW, the only way to get back to Diablo is via the town portal, the entrance to Diablo in level 15 is closed.

I've done this myself but in multiplayer games.  I'd start a multiplayer game either on Battle.net or LAN and keep a player in town whilst I went down to kill Diablo.  Set the portal using the player in town, kill diablo then re-enter the game and collect the item.  I never got a unique from him but the item was always worth the money Gris was willing to cough up for it.

Updates

- Adrian Lee has sent in the graphic for the Gnatsting which he found on level 12 of the Caves, normal difficulty.  The original one I had was pretty blurred looking, a bit pink and emmm fluffy.

- Brandon Fry has sent in a picture of the Grey Suit{Donkey Suit} which he found on level 3 of the Nest.  Apparently the Complete Nut takes it and yells at you because you bought him the wrong suit.  It doesn't appear to have any attributes and it's worth not a penny in gold - I can tell you're pleased about that. You can see a pic here.

- It seems that the Bard can attack more than one monster simultaneously, C Weber has written in with his findings and this can be found in the Player's section along with more added today.

Incantations

- Ryan Arvidson has kindly translated the three books outside of Na-Krul's Lair....

Now my Latin is not the greatest since I have no one to speak to in the Latin language but I've translated the books to read:

in spirita sanctum
- In holy spirit
efficio obitus ut inimicus
- Render death when hostile
praedictum otium
- Declare peace

I believe the Sorcerer in the trailer is the one writing the journals, these spells ease the demon, making him easier to kill.

Although these are rough translations, I believe them to be very accurate.

Thanks & Uniques

- CaPTaiN G, who asked for feedback on uniques and specials and sent his thanks to those who responded.

- And on the subject of tasty items barnesbunch wrote in to say he received an amulet of the Heavens from Celia when he returned Theodore, +14 to all stats.  Whilst not a unique, it's definitely on the juicy side.  Warhawk found the Gladiator's Ring in Hell {Level 14?} for killing a Steel Lord.

Hellfire God

Right okay this should be a working copy.  Pestilence has sent in a copy of the Trainer with dlls.  He's tested it himself and it worked.  I've not tested it yet as it seems any time I tamper with my characters something goes horribly wrong, that's how I kissed goodbye to my level 39 Rogue {sniff}.

Command.txt

- Received some more news on the command.txt modifier from Will Osborn.

If you use the file command.txt as you have it written, it creates a bug in the game that deletes Lester the Farmer.  If you omit the modifier cowquest, it fixes this bug.  I discovered this today as I tried to get the Rune Bomb from Lester to go to the Hive.  This bug makes it impossible to go the new levels of the game.

Also if you add the modifiers Nestart and Cryptart it gives you different looks to the Nest and Crypt.

I applied the command.txt to my Hellfire after I'd completed the Nest so I can't say 100% that the Rune Bomb is not offered by the Complete Nut who replaces Lester the Farmer when this file is added.   I had thought from people's mails that adding this file will just replace Lester with the Cow, Rune Bomb and all.

And the nestart/cryptart modifier, as I said on Jan 1 I tried this and went to both sets of levels and noticed no difference.  I've asked Will if he can send a screenshot of any changes he sees.  If anyone else has added this modifier which you can pick up here and notices a difference in the art, grab a screenshot and send it in.
