Purgatory
Clicker - Elly
There is another version of Diablo Clicker
released to work with the Purgatory mod for Hellfire. This nifty little prog will send
mouse clicks while the mouse button is pressed [left or right]. The time between
clicks is adjustable in milliseconds. So if you're sick of stabbing pains in the palm of
your hand [or is that just me?] you can put a stop to it here [107kb].
Another New Kali - Elly
1.58 was only released a week ago and now the updated 1.59 has been
released. So if you use Kali to play Diablo or Hellfire you can grab the latest here.
These are the updates to 1.59
- Added launch
support for: Axis And Allies, Delta Force, Blood 2, Descent 3 Demo
- Added TCP
Launch support for Blood 2, Descent 3
- Fixed a
crash when playing Descent 3 Demo IPX games.
- Fixed crash
when entering too many characters in WhoIs Dialog.
- Fixed random
seeming crash when games list was open.
- Changed the
way nickname expansion works.
- Fixed
problem of not being able to hit tab to cycle through all private message senders.
- Fixed
problem of Custom TCP/IP servers not working through a proxy.
This will be archived in the file section of both the Diablo and Hellfire sites for
future reference.

Purgatory Updated - Elly
Loklorn has informed us that his
popular mod Purgatory has been updated. He's been overwhelmed by the response and is
busy ironing out bugs and adding to it so I'll pass on his thanks to all those who've
provided him with this valuable feedback.
This new version [0.21] has a more balanced cathedral and some item modifications.
The next step will involve resolving some buggy item properties and balancing the
catacombs and possibly some work on the quests. Loklorn is hoping to have the next
version out next weekend. We will keep you up to date on the progress. For now enjoy
Purgatory
Version 0.21. For future reference this file in the Files
section where there's also the full update listing.
You visit can Loklorn's website here.

New Mod - Elly
Loklorn has sent word of a new Hellfire Mod he as created.
Hellfire V2 has a companion: the fires of Purgatory. You can
find my mod here.
Playable in single player and multi player (if you dare)! New unique items! Modified
monsters! New prefixes/suffixes!
You will need to have your Hellfire upgraded with Sierra's V1.01 patch [590kb] before
installing Purgatory. As well as a download link on Loklorn's server I have also
added it to our server here [479kb].
Purgatory hasn't been extensively playtested yet so any feedback you can provide Loklorn
would be a great help. You can read full details of the latest version of Purgatory here. This mod has been archived over on the
Hellfire site for future reference. You can visit Loklorn's website here.

Converting Characters
- Elly
I have added a guide to converting multiplayer Diablo characters to Hellfire. The guide,
written by §T¥X includes links to all the software you need. You can view it here. As this is a really
common query I have included a permanent link in the nav bar.

Sierra to do Tolkien
Sierra have landed the exclusive rights to produce games based on The Hobbit and Lord of
the Rings by Tolkien. Titled "Middle Earth Online" it will be set during the
Third Age, several generations after War of the Ring has concluded and Sauron was
destroyed. Classes available to play will be Elves, Dwarfs, Hobbits and Humans whose foes
will include Orcs and Trolls in settings such as Rivendell and Moria. Obviously the
game will be multiplayer and the plans are for it to be a continuous online world
supporting up to 10,000 simultaneous users across 2,000 different locations.
Yosemite Entertainment, a division of Sierra
Online are set the task of creating what will no doubt be a hugely anticipated game.
That's the good news, the bad news is that we're looking at a late 1999 release.

Updates
Two new characters have been added to the Character
Vaults. Justin Ames has sent in his level 38 Barbarian which you can find in the Barbarian's Arena and Matthew Payne has sent
in Angel, a level 39 Bard who you can find in The Bard's Tavern. - Thanks very much to TeRR0RNauT for getting all the
details of the characters for me.
Graham Bavage has sent in an item pack which contains 150 staves, 14 swords and 14 axes,
all made by himself. It also contains a 'urine sample'. Nice bit of tasteful
creativity there:) You can find this in the
'items' section of the files page.

Win98 problems
I have purged the forum again this morning. One of the
threads was regarding problems in connection with Win98 and Hellfire and Kevin Davis
provided a new storm.dll file which I have now included in the patches page of the files section. There is not a new storm for
Diablo yet however.

Tyson Richardson aka Uthlan Kaampen has written a guide on how to make your Barbarian
practically invincible which you can find in

Diablo 2 Exclusive
I was lucky enough to get my first glimpse of Diablo 2 today. I visited Bill Roper
of Blizzard and got the full guided tour. I've written a full report over on The Unofficial Diablo II Site.
Final two characters revealed by the way.

Jarulf Updates
Yesterday Jarulf sent along version 1.10 of his comprehensive guide to Diablo and
Hellfire. I had the link up to the downloadable file above yesterday but have now
had time to lay it out on the site. I have indicated changes made since the last
guide with [ ]. So those who have thumbed through the guide many a time will be able
to see easily exactly what is new/updated. TeRR0RNauT sent along a listing of the
changes also so thanks to him for the following:
Corrected many formulas for characters
Corrected the maximum stats table
Added info on blocking and hit recovery
Added info on item levels for base items and non magical items
Added info on possible number of charges on staves
Reorganised the item chapter and added a few new level summaries
Corrected info on many Hellfire items, prefixes and suffixes
Added info on how healing and mana potions works
Added info on a lot of missing spells including most Hellfire spells in the detailed
spell info tables
Removed info on auto To Hit in monster tables as it was wrong. Have instead added
general info about auto To Hit
Changed the way resistance and immunities for monsters was presented to get rid of
pages in landscape orientation
Added info to monster summary tables of what uniques exists for each type of monster.
No new info though, just made it easier figure it out
Added info on some shrines in Hellfire
Added info on new commands on Battle Net
Many, many small corrections and additions all over the Guide
See the full guide here.

New Diablo .Exe file
Varaya & Khan have updated their Diablo.exe file to include these changes.
Modified a lot of monsters to get around the "to hit" bug in Diablo and
Diablo Hellfire. The bug caused a lot of monsters in hell/hell to have a VERY low to hit
so that they did not hit at all except for their automatic to hit chance. This is no real
fix, because this means that even the baddest monsters in the game will have a hard time
to hit any hero with an AC of 280/290 or
above, but it is all we can do at the moment (better lower to hit than no to hit at all)
[bug in original game]
Moved Grimspike to lvl 15 so that he does not appear in every game
Moved The Hellian Fleshdoom to lvl 16. He is now a knight :-)
Modified colours on some bosses (e.g. The Warlord of Blood looks really cool now)
Killing Diablo does now not end the game. When he dies, he simply disappears and you can
still grab any items lying around (in fact, you can play on and on until you quit the game
manually). Diablo is the monster with the highest level, so his items will (possibly) be
VERY good.
Modified/fixed many uniques to get around the uniques bug in Diablo and Diablo Hellfire.
The bug made many uniques unfindable in multiplayer. [bug in original game] --> if you
have any of OUR uniques from the last version, they might morph !!! <--
Added one or two new uniques
New monsters: Hell Archers
modified some monsters (e.g. Blood Knights) and made them somewhat harder (hit recovery,
speed) to compensate for the loss in to hit because of the "to hit bug".
Download here (383kb). Thanks to Philip
Preen for this update.
Added some tips in 'Player Suggestions'
from Archimage, V Harrison and Marco Zinn.

Site Links
Those who have been trying to download
files from the LSE server have been having problems. It seems they now required a
'~' in the link so I've gone through all the links to that server and amended them.
If you find any I've missed though, let me know.
You'll also notice that I've taken off the banner. It's no great secret that I
didn't like it there, partly due to the banners not being stored on my own server so they
slowed the page down considerably and partly because they never matched my colour
scheme. Hey it's my site and it's got to match you know:)

Tourney Time
BSE will be running a Diablo Tournament over the first two weekends in May. The
final to be held on 9 or 10 May. No cheating will be allowed, obviously and Warriors
will not be able to use Magic. They are basically the rules at the moment.
Nothing too hard to overcome. If you're interested in taking part head on over to BSE and sign
up.

Character Files
The DarkSide clan have sent along three of their Sorcerers. Pure as the driven snow
they ain't:) Bobafett {2kb}, Soulburner {2kb} and S=o=u=l=e=s=s {3kb}.
Barbarian Guide
Starting a Barbarian from scratch,
developing him into the formidable killing machine his name suggests has proved not so
easy for some. Rydall having built his character up sufficiently jumped him straight
from normal to hell mode and has taken the time to share how he has managed this. I
hasten to point out he has not cheated, just applied some simple logic. Read Barbarian Pointers by Rydall.
I have put Rydall's article in a new section called Players Articles along with 'Best Sword Combos for the Bard' by Cynic
and 'Master of Shadows' by Silverthorn. This link will remain in the bottom nav bar,
second column. If you have any articles you'd like included in that section whether it's
about the game as a whole, cheating, is Diablo true RPG, anything you think others would
like to read you can send them here.
One last thing. I am still receiving mails on a daily basis asking for Command.txt
details, as in what text is actually in it? Rather than wasting your time mailing
for this information just click the Command.txt details button up above this on the right.
As well as having the downloadable file the command is typed so you can cut 'n'
paste into a text doc yourself. Much quicker.
Win98
Ooo big old gap between updates here.
Plenty on the D2 site,
just not so much on here. Anyway as a result of recent posts on the Diablo Talk Forum Kevin Davis and John have sent
along a copy of the storm.dll which should allow you to run Hellfire under Win98 beta.
I haven't come across one for Diablo yet, if you have it send it along please.
Replace the storm.dll file in the Hellfire directory with this one {74kb}. If you have problems
getting a place on the FTP to download mail me and I'll mail it to you instead of waiting.
Incidentally Win98 full is due for worldwide release 25 June.

Updated Item Editor
- Stuart Crosby has released an
updated version of his Hellfire Item Editor....
"The design has been improved, many more editable things added, the help file was
re-designed, I added a graphics dll, I added more combo boxes, I added the ability to load
.itm, .hif and .hfc files from the command line, I added the ability for it to be a
plug-in for raymond's trainer, and there are still more... It is also probably not the
last version, I know of some bugs that need to be fixed and some more data to be changed
and reorganized..."
So all in all many improvements to the
last version and you can download it here.

Virtual CD
I've finally got around to putting a copy of Virtual CD on the files page. I have
also included full instructions courtesy of TeRR0RNauT and Paul Sinclair. You can
find this file in the Utilities section.

Although news has been thinner on the
ground for Hellfire be sure to check out Player's
Tips and the Uniques/Location pages
which are both updated daily. Quickie thanks to Timothy Judd for sending in the Oily
shrine effect on the Barbarian which is +2 to Vitality.
Also there has been daily updates on the Diablo 2 site. Many of you have sent in
'Player's Suggestions' for Diablo 2, some quite simple, others would take a lot of work.
A new Diablo exe file has been released by Varaya and Khan's. This .exe
concentrates on the improvement of uniques and this can be picked up on the Diablo 2 site also. These
are the same people who released the Hellfire exe file in March which can be found in the files section under 'patches'.

Master of Shadows
Here's an interesting article by Silverthorn, Master of Shadows. It discusses the
advantages of using light reducing equipment. You can read how he put his theory to
the test .
Playing the Bard
Having taken his Bard through all 24
levels on all difficulty settings Wesley Jordan AKA Cynic has put together a nice article
on how to play the fifth character. If you've ever fancied giving the Bard a shot
reading Cynic's ' first should help you develop her into an effective hero. I have
archived this article in the Bard page also for future reference. If you have your
own account or guide to playing any of the six characters you can send it here.
- Incidentally Sierra were here over the weekend we got some information on up and coming
titles such as Starcraft and Halflife and it looks as if we
are all in for a treat on both of these titles.

Characters
A couple more character files in
today. First Luke Schmidt {LS} has sent along 'Daddy', a level 31 Barbarian who is
well kitted out with plenty of dosh too. Also Raizer has sent Conan the
Monk. Conan is level 34 and has a couple of hacked items but they are nothing
outrageous, in fact they balance the character out nicely. View Daddy in the Barbarian's Arena and Conan in the Monk's Cloister.
Wind up
Nothing to do with Hellfire but something that should put a smile on your face. It
certainly cracked us up here. The guys over at PC Zone decided it was time to put game technical support services to
the test and see just how well they coped with various types of 'challenging' calls.
Download this file to see
what went on when Zone called Activision's support regarding Quake 2 with a fictitious
problem. Hat's off to the Activision's support guy, he did a grand job. This
wav is included with others in April's issue of PC Zone and it's worth the purchase just
to listen to this lot.

Quickies
Had another purge on the forum
today. Took out all posts prior to and including the 15th February.
LS has forwarded on a monk which he has created over the past few weeks. I think you'll
find Monkeywrench, a level 32 monk, a nicely rounded character with a healthy 1144 mana
level and stacked with gold thanks to the Auric Amulet he's wearing. You can find
him stored in the Monk's Cloister.
Zultan from Atlanta, USA who favours the Sorcerer has added himself to the Multiplayer Matchup Listing.
I had forgotton to mention on Friday that the link to the Diablo 2 competition has now
been removed as the closing date was Friday. Winners will be announced on the Diablo 2 site as soon as possible.

Quickies
Sunmaster noticing a glaring omission from the Monsters page has sent along a pic of
Na-Krul. Surfer has sent along a Rouge, Clumsy, he has created and you can find her
in the Rogue's Gallery. Kirstgen "Don
Sparrow" Vits has updated Sparrow the Bard. Sparrow's been further down the
road so as you'd expect she packs more of a punch and sports some original equipment now -
find her in The Bard's Tavern. Purple Death
from Oklahoma, USA has added himself to the Multiplayer Matchup listing.

Compy
Not Hellfire related but thought you'd like to know that Reality X are running a competition
in conjunction with Red Orb. This one is to win one of ten copies of Legacy of Time.
If you're not sure what the game's all about you can read our review
that went up tonight before entering. Just a reminder that the Diablo 2 Competition is
still taking entries also.
Quickies
Added Meccaworld's review to Player's
Reviews. Three more characters added the first from Silverthorn who has sent in his
Sorcerer by the same name. This Diablo character is said to take less than 30
minutes to kill Diablo in Hell/Hell and can be found in the files section. The next two have been created by Jeff Isaac and
are from Hellfire, the first a Rogue called Matilda and the second a Monk called Nelbert,
and these can be found in the Rogue's Gallery and Monk's Cloister sections of the Character Vaults.

Hellfire Mod
Varaya and Khan's Hellfire Mod has already been updated. I have changed the download
link to pull straight from their server as this file is being updated on a daily basis at
the moment. Details of this mod can be found in the files section. Some very
positive feedback is already coming in about this patch so if you want to beef up your
game download here.
Have fun and let us know what you think.
Quickies
- The forum loading was slowing down
a bit too much for my liking so I have nuked 70 more messages up to 14th Feb. A lot
of the useful tips or strategies are archived in the Players Tips section as and when they
are posted. So no worries, your pearls of wisdom aren't lost for ever.

Hellfire Mod
Varaya and Khan have released a beta version of a Hellfire mod {473kb}. You must
have upgraded your Hellfire to version 1.01 with Sierra's patch in order for this to work.
Then rename your original hellfire.exe to hellfire.old and unzip the files from this zip
file into the hellfire directory. Listed below are some of the changes this will
make to your game.
Modified Crypt and made it a
"hell extension", i.e put some interesting monsters in, made them a little
harder than usual and included some new bosses for them, maybe with some special
abilities.
You will find some hell
monsters {knights, mages) also in the Hive. Please note, though, that the Hive
difficulty is much higher now.
Some bosses have been deleted
from the church and cats levels and their slots have been used for the new Hell and Crypt
bosses. This means you will not find some bosses any more - you will have new ones
instead.
The price of gothic plates and
gothic shields have been lowered so they are cheaper than full plates and tower shields.
Some new town gossip is now
included (for some of the new bosses include.
As I said above this is a beta version so
if you test this out please drop the authors a line or two on any observations you think
might help them perfect this. One final word; Don't mess with the cows. Of
course now I've mentioned that you'll all be heading straight for the cows as soon as you
start up:) I've also put this mod in the files section under Patches.
Quickies
Art has updated his item pack. Split into
categories, this pack also contains a full readme and can be found in the items section of
files. TeRR0RNauT has updated his
Story of Hellfire to reflect recent internal events in Sierra Synergistic and you can now
find version 1.01 here.

Multiplayer Matchup
Ed Lacy of Nebraska and Black Snow from Hong Kong have added themselves to the Multiplayer Matchup listing.
Items
Igal has sent over two packs which he's made up. The first is a pack of hacked items
including such things as Armor of the Samurai, Cupid's Bow of Hate, Witch-Doctor's
Bracelets and Chaotic Whip of Brutality. Most items use the 'unused' graphics in
Hellfire such as the bone axe. The second pack contains all single player items and
igal guarantees that they will not morph when starting a new single player game.
These are probably the most powerful and most interesting legitimate items you can come
across. Mammoth also sent along a pack including all the books amongst other items.
All three packs can be found in the files
section.

Quickies
Lord_Lothar from Canada has added himself to the multiplayer Multiplayer Matchup Listing.
Keith Chung has added the Oil of Mastery and Oil of Imperviousness and Ostar added the Oil
of Permanence to the oil pack in the Shoppe.
Hidden Priest
Investigating the "diabdat.mpq" file Michael Kaltner has come across a set of 8
.wav files named
sfx/Towners/Priest000 - 007. Some seem to be connected with the Arch-Bishop Lazarus
quest and some with FleshDoom and a Demon-Blade named 'Shadow Fang'. The pack
Michael has sent along contains all eight .wavs and a text document containing a full
transcript. He has been unable to dig up a graphic for this Priest though.

New sites
I'm pleased to announce that two heavy
duty contributors to this site now have their own Diablo/Hellfire related sites up and
running. Frosty AKA The Frost Lord's new site went online today. This site will cover the
legends of Diablo and also a whole stack of hacked items he's made. He will continually
add more items as they are made. Adrain Lee AKA CyBoRg also has a new site which will
hopefully help bring Diablo/Hellfire players together who live out the Far East neck of
the woods. Mail Adrian to join his player's listing.
Incidentally, I have put my links section
up on the Unofficial Diablo 2 Site so
anyone wanting a link please mail in making sure you specify which section you'd like your
site included in.
Character Vaults
I have made a new section to the site called the Character
Vaults dedicated to the character files that you have sent in. Rather than keep
them tucked away in the files section I thought it would be easier to find a character
that best suited your requirements if I gave them each a detailed entry. They have
been catagorised into separate sections, one for each of the six character classes.
I have imported all of the characters into Hellfire so I could get full details of
equipment and stats. As always if you have any comments to make on this section,
please drop me a line.

Item Editor Update
Stu has updated his item editor. He's still working on getting CRC checking and a
graphic dll built for it too but meanwhile you can go to the files section and download it.
Quickies
Adrian has sent in some packs, one is all the books found in single player, one a pack
consisting of just uniques and the third he calls 'best of'. 'Best of' is in the files section and the other two have been added to
the Shoppe. Ching Tak Fai has also added a pack
and Zultan has updated his. Both can be found in the files section.
Regnaron from Canada has added himself to the multiplayer Matchup List.
Articles
Brian Wilkerson has put together his thoughts on weird, hidden stuff he has found in
Diablo such as .wavs, quests etc. You can go and view it here and he is happy to receive your
feedback.
TeRR0RNauT has passed on the story of Hellfire, this amusing account of its history can be
read here.
Gaming Extravaganza
Not related to Hellfire in the slightest but I thought I'd mention to people in the UK
about an event myself and others at Reality X are organising. The event, FUSION 98 is a two day gaming
extravaganza to be held in Leeds over the Easter Weekend. The venue's booked (four
star hotel) and software houses are currently sighing up to show their soon to be released
products. So far, games you'll be treated to viewing are Starcraft, Sin, Half Life,
a new strategy game from Red Orb (secret name and they aren't saying), Plane
Crazy/Europress titles & Game, Net and Match Oh and Diablo 2.....nah only joking on
the last one:). The main part of the event though is the gaming tournaments which
will consist of Quake, Quake 2, Total Annihilation and Red Alert. Big prizes are up
for grabs as well as prize draws.
This is the first event of its type to bring the software houses and gamers together in
one room so as well as the opportunity to view their games you'll also be able to give
them valuable feedback on the games they create for us. So if you'd like to come
along head over to the FUSION 98
site for the full details and note you don't have to take part in the tournaments to
attend.

Diablo & Hellfire Guide
Version 1.00 of Jarulfs Guide to Diablo and Hellfire has been
released. This is an extremely extensive guide and well worth the read, Pedro, the
author has clearly put many hours into this. If you have anything to add to the
document please drop him a line even if you do not I'm sure he'll appreciate a line or two
congratulating him on a job well done. I've set it out with hyperlinks so it should
be easy to navigate round. Thanks to TeRR0RNauT for sending this along.
Player Review
Brian Wilkerson has sent in his review of
Hellfire and so far it's the top score given; a whopping 9.9 out of 10. That is one
seriously happy customer. See the review here.
Matchup
Chair from Michigan, USA has added himself to the Player
Matchup listing. He plays the Sorcerer and is looking for games over either
Battle.net or Kali.
Items
Ching Tak Fa has sent in a Blitzen and Raimonds Visockis has sent in the Sparking Mail
{Unique}. The appropriate packs in the Shoppe
have been updated. I have changed the listings in the Shoppe so at the top is a note
of the last item/s included and the date they were added. Michael Malin has sent in
a pack {822kb} of single and multiplayer items, everything is broken down between each
game and player version and much further and this is now in the files page.
Character
Don Sparrow has forward on a level 20 Bard with a full listing of all that she is carrying
and wearing which you can find in the character section of the files page.

Purge time
I've been over the forum again and cleared out all posts prior
to 10 February. They'd all been well answered anyway. This will keep it
loading as quick as possible.
More info on bug
Philip AKA ClassAct has written in in
response to yesterday's news item from Conner Mac Leod on the Brass and Gnarled Root bug.
"I have also had this happen on a semiregular basis with all sorts of weapons when
playing multiplayer hellfire on my two pcs at home. The to hit bonus is always changed to
+65532 or something similar altho I have always sold the items rather than use them."
Matchup
Helstar from Breda in Holland and TeRR0RNauT also from Holland have added themselves to
the Matchup list.
More toys
- Sabbath has updated his pack of toys,
now 69kb. The file includes a readme and when unzipped into your Windows Explorer
each item has a full description. You can find these in the items section of the files page.

Unique Hellfire Bug?
Connor Mac Leod has come accross a pair of big bugs which should be of interest to you
all...
"Brass attribute is bugged and also minus to CA.
1. If you find a brass ring -4% to hit . Just leave it on the ground ask someone to touch
it and to put it back on the ground. Then it became a +65536-4= 65532%
to hit. AWESOME isnt'it . IT ALWAYS WORK!
2. I found the unique GNARLED ROOT. If you do the same as above the -10 Minus to AC
becomes a AC 256-10= 246. AWESOME isn't it? IT ALWAYS WORK!"
Character Update
TeRR0RnaT has updated his Anari0n mage. Added to the pack this time is Orlorin, a
tank mage with loads of armour. You can find this pack of two in the
character section of the files
page.
