List of passive and active skills

    Hello everyone!

After a... stormy news day, I thought I'd try and cheer some of you up! I'll be translating the list of passive and active skills that JudgeHype had time to write down during the July 2011 meet at Blizzard. ( http://diablo3.judgehype.com/ ) Thanks go again to JudgeHype for all the work!

23 passives? I thought we were talking 15~ per class. Good news, but with so many they could give us at least one additional passive skill slot.

Re: List of passive and active skills

The reason behind having so many skills but small limits for active/passive ones was that they wanted to for people to make sacrifices to really define their build.

All I know is that I was frustrated having 5 skills unlocked by level 6 and only being able to use 2 of them.

Um. These passives kinda suck. Ton of boring redundancy, way too many simple statistical bonuses.

I was really hoping Blizzard would have gotten boring trait design out of their system by now.

I like barbs passives, nice passive lifesteal ones and some nice straight defensive ones. Percentages seems quite high but I guess that makes the passives feel awesome when you get them! Thank you Zediono.

Re: List of passive and active skills

I wonder what they planning for the discrepancy in available skills between classes. Are they hoping to level it out? Are they fine with differences? If so, are they fine with such big differences.

According to this list, here is the break down:

    CLASS ACTIVE PASSIVE TOTAL

    Barb 22 23 45

    DH 23 14 37

    WD 20 17 37

    Monk 21 13 34

    Wiz 25 15 40

On a tangent, the Wiz’s archon skill looks to be interesting. DiabloFans reported that you change into an energy being and your skills change. And DiabloFans reported that Wrath of the Berzerker has a similar effect. I don’t know how they change, but sounds like it could be fun. On the other hand, this would just add more skill variety to the two classes that already have the most available skills (provided they don’t change that).

Also, does anyone know why the skill levels (read, when they become available) differs from the announcement? Should I assume that the slots become available separately from the skills becoming available?

    Thanks for the translation.

Choosing passive skills will be pretty tricky, lots of nice bonuses available. As useful as many (not all imo) seem to be, they look pretty boring though regarding the actual gameplay.
+Damage or +Crit is just not that fun to play, I would love to see some more interesting Traits that really affect your playstyle.

This. ESPECIALLY if we only get 3 of them... if they're just going to be statistical bonuses they should be huge.

stuff like 10% movement speed in certain situations.. wth?

Re: List of passive and active skills

It's not even the question off statistical boosts' size. That can be adjusted with a single number edit.

It's that there is a huge disparity between awesome, gameplay defining traits such as Blood Rituals and a whole mess of yawn inducing +% damage and +crits. I am fairly certain that gear is alreayd handling the attribute side. Why waste a potentially awesome system of passives by being lazy and not making all of them to be actually creative game changers?

No, skill runes are for active skills only. Though skill runes might end up providing random passive attribute boosts if they like that idea.

Re: List of passive and active skills

What is the point of getting passive skills at level 3 or so when you don't even unlock the first passive slot until level 10?

I would have to agree, what is the point of some of the passives if the later ones can do the same thing, but better. I think it would be better if some of the passives level up as you do(like active skills are doing right now), either a little for each level, or by a break-point level.

There are a few passives that gives a bonus when you are low on health. I really dislike these as they sometimes encourage you to stay near the death zone level health(not something you want to do as a HC player.).

There are a few passives that seems to be made for specialized builds that I am ok with.(Slaughter is a good example.)

There are others that causes me to worry a little.(Like Cruelty I thought they wanted to strictly control life steal? so we have 10% from this and 28% from a piece of helm? What else?) (Then there is Frenzied Attack, I hope they make a counterpart passive for two handers.) (There is also Second Wind. I thought I read in an interview that Blizzard sound this kind of healing kind of boring because it causes players to wait after a battle to fully heal.)

So far these are the passives that interest me the most right now :

    Barbarian

I wonder if this would get a penalty in that you can no longer get fury by dealing or taking damage.

    Demon Hunter

The best offense is a good defense?

I find this interesting as no other class has a movement increasing passive that can be used at almost at all times.

This sounds interesting for a crit based build.

I am wondering the usefulness of this passive as Hatred already regenerates at a rapid pace compared to Discipline.

    Witch Doctor

This passive sounds like it would save a lot of mana, but would cause you to play very carefully. A nice way to change how someone plays(except for someone playing in HC.)

    Monk

2 minute increase? I wonder how long they last normally.

I go back and forth on deciding if this is a meh kind of passive, or if it is a good one.

Now this is interesting because it can be stack with the above passive causing someone to try a crit build for dodge in order to use Spirit using skills a bit more often. I hope we get an indicator when we dodge things.

What? So if the Monk dies... He doesn't die and instead gets 30% health and 30% Spirit? This sounds a bit too good to be true, there got to be a cooldown for this. And I wonder if this would be consider a must for HC Monks.

    Wizard

If you are in melee range I wonder if you would be able to get away.

This almost sounds like a must for any normal Wizard which would love to slow down enemies in order to kite them.

Interesting because it is the only passive that reduces cooldown, and I wonder if it can reduce the cooldowns of passive skills.

... Wow that was a long post. Sorry =P

It looks like they just renamed "traits" to "passive skills". I assume the skill levels haven't been changed yet.
