No Diablo 3 Playstation Network and PC Battle.Net Connectivity

Knowing how these things go when a game is released on console and PC, it would be quite unusual for PC gamers to be able to play alongside DiabloWikiconsole  gamers. As Diablo 3 will be utilising the Playstation Network for online play there will be no connectivity between that and DiabloWikiBattle.Net. Also, the games are quite different with different interfaces which will impact the gameplay. Just to confirm this Blizzard have issued this comment:

While we think cross-platform play would be awesome, there are currently no plans to allow connectivity between PlayStation Network and (this is pretty standard for most games that have PC and console support). As a result, the characters on your account and PlayStation account will also remain separate.

In terms of allowing an analog controller hookup for the PC, we don’t have any plans for that kind of support right now. Similarly, since Diablo III for console was designed with a controller in mind, the PlayStation version of Diablo III will not support USB mice or keyboards.

At the risk of being abused by console gamers, I will say that nothing can beat a keyboard and mouse 🙂

  1. So the Playstation 3 version has it’s own economy too?

    What a disappointment.

  2. Not surprising. Opening up offline on PS was a huge security risk to the PC space. Since PS4 is x86 architecture (making it a fancy PC), I wonder how much code is transferable? Will PC players finally get drop tables and other deep end RNG digging on the PS4 offline code?

    • All code is transferable, all the code is the same but system calls are different, because it’s different hardware(not only processor)/software(OS) architecture. The code of the game is written in C++ which you can compile wherever you want, compiler will only report syntax things which are specific to other compilers, and so called headers: specific to the particular system (OS), this things must be changed in order to successfully compile the code. But as Rushster mentioned they cut off network and events(interface, controller) code… Oh and system calls: these are the specific instruction particular to the OS, which are in os library (DLL/SO), to which compiled program have only a link; usage example: program need to send a bunch of data to graphic card: instructions in the program which call the specific function in library -> sending data graphic card system call -> data.

  3. I don’t understand one thing: if they created a different product for consoles why they cut off a bunch of good mechanics? If somebody want to use a phrase “the same experience” in his/her answer I will not buy it. mouse+keyboard VS analog controller == different experience.

  4. thank god, the last thing we need is 10yo kiddies flooding Bnet people with friend requests. we all know how over-excited they get

  5. huge disappointment. i played my barb to paragon 70 and when d3
will be released for ps3/4 he might be 100. i will never ever start
again from the beginning. i assume that no crossplatforming also
means that you cant transfer your character to your console.

    • yeah im with you on that. Ive spent way too much time and money on my PC barb. All my accolades, all my accomplishments. Why the hell would i even consider starting over then?

  6. I wonder if there will even be an auction house for playstation. I also wonder if they will tweak itemization such that better gear drops in general.

  7. Console version was developed with analog and gamepad in my mind? Fuck off Blizzard. Everyone knows whole Diablo was developed with gamepad and consoles in mind.

  8. What a bunch of bastards!!! They should also allow us PC gamers to play off-line. What a load of rubbish!

  9. One could also buy a bluetooth/usb keyboard and mouse, thus making the ps3 Diablo 3 experience essentially equivalent to a personal computer.

Why do they explicitly not allow?
    Pretty dumb choice.

    • In the case of shooters, the mice aiming was so far beyond better than controllers that it was never a fair fight. They had to keep controllers and mice separate in a shooter b/c of the super advantage mice provided. As for D3, there are aiming intensive skills, but not all of them, and not to the point where a mouse becomes the clear and away best control scheme. If you tweak some of the controls, it works, as shown in X-Men Legends or Marvel Alliance. In fact, Monks might be better w/ a controller. Combos work better on controllers or joysticks. Fighting games specifically suck on mouse/keyboard.

  10. There should not be anything preventing them from linking the console version to the PC economy. One more reason I hate consoles, console versions of games, and diehard console gamers who refuse to see the future.

    On the flip side… 🙂

By the time the console version gets released it’s going to WANT it’s own totally separate economy. The economy on the PC version is already terrible that’s undeniable. God knows what it will look like several months from now when the 3rd party price of gold has crashed completely and you can buy anything you want for $1.50 of bot farmed gold.

  11. And the only thing that could have possibly made Diablo 3 interesting confirmed not hapening

  12. LOL,the real single player will be on the PS or will it?

Perhaps one day a hacked copy will appear for PC. Its only a matter of time now.

    Time will tell.

    • Clear cut promoting of piracy ?

Guess again , as long as all crucial information is stored on servers, your local client PC copy will always be a very bleak fail.

      • Piracy ? we all own at least 1 copy of game (sometimes more) so how it’s piracy exacly ?

      • If they’re really releasing the PS3(and/or PS4)-Version with a working offline mode, then the data is all on the disc. Perhaps with a simple server emulation running in the background while playing, perhaps with another workaround getting it done.

  13. Wish I could play offline with my launch day copy that I haven’t touched for months..

  14. I just pray activision doesnt milk Diablo to death like they do all their other franchises. Wth they would do it like this idk. bogus we cant just log in on the ps4 version and all our pc characters stuff be right there like if i logged in on my lap top. Ive given you guys WAAAY too much time to consider starting from scratch
