Blizzard kicked off their Gamescom press conference with a new cinematic revealing the Diablo 3 Expansion: Reaper of Souls. There’s also new gameplay footage, news of the new class the Crusader, the official RoS press release, and much more.

  • The new class is the DiabloWikiCrusader, a strength-based brawler. This sword and shield user is affiliated with the Diablo 2 Paladin and is described as a “mid-range melee” fighter. Video shows him using numerous flashy-graphic magical attacks, many of them Monk-like at a glance. The skills Shield Bash and Fist of Heavens were demonstrated during the press conference. Also Shield Flare, which can be used to blind your enemies. The Crusader is playable in the Gamescom demo!
  • The Archangel DiabloWikiMalthael is the main villain of the expansion. Returned from the void as the Reaper of Souls, with his wings turned skeletal. Malthael wants to end the Eternal Conflict by destroying all demons and he’s not fond of humans either. He can turn the dead against the living.
  • The Expansion is set largely in DiabloWikiWestmarch, an area not too distant from Tristram. It’s described as very gothic in design and levels in the streets of Westmarch and in the Temple of the Zakarum are being shown. These areas will be playable in the demo at the Gamescom event, so fans will get to see it and we’ll have video shortly.
  • RoS adds many new forms of the End Game, with changes to the Paragon system and new types of loot runs.
  • Max level is raised to 70. New skills and runes for all classes.
  • DiabloWikiParagon 2.0: Paragon going account wide, so all chars will benefit. No longer a cap on max Paragon. Unknown how this will affect max Magic Find and Gold Find.
  • DiabloWikiLoot 2.0: Fewer total items will drop, but they’ll be of better quality, much as the DiabloWikiconsole is promising. Josh Mosqueira gave a hypothetical example of drop changes: D3C sample drops: 256 white, 399 blue, 275 yellow, 1 legendary. D3X sample drops: 73 white, 266 blue, 83 yellow, but some Smart Drops. And 6 legendaries, which will be build-changers.
  • A new item feature is “Smart Drops,” items that will drop with stats tailored to the class you are playing.
  • Enchanting will allow you to reroll an affix on a Legendary or Rare item via the DiabloWikiMystic.
  • A new Artisan will allow you to transmogrify your items, as detailed in a recent blue post.
  • Loot runs are shorter dungeons, 15-20 minutes and completely randomized.
  • It’s due for release in 2014.

Loot 2.0 will go into D3C as well as D3X, in a free patch. Translated from Polish B.net forum:

It’s likely that when the expansion comes out (or shortly before that) there will be a 2.0 patch.
Wuluxar: Changes to the game systems will come in a patch preceeding the release of the expansion – they will be available to all players, including the ones that don’t have the expansion (of course for free).

Screenshots

We’ve got 20 screens from the gameplay trailer, showing the Crusader, new areas, new dungeons, new monsters, and more. Click to the Gamescom 2013 Gameplay gallery to see them all, and we’ve got another gallery of Cinematic shots coming soon.

One interesting thing you can note in some of the gameplay video; they show several current dungeons in Acts 1-3 with new color palates and new monsters in them. For example: glowing skeletons in ZKs tombs and Corrupted Angels in Leoric’s, and more new skelies in Act 3 Keep. I like this idea; nice that we’ll have fresh-feeling content through all the acts, rather than just the new Act 5.

Cinematic Images

Holyknight turned loose his love for the artwork and selected more than 50 images from the RoS cinematic. The stills can all be seen in the Reaper of Souls cinematic gallery, and a few of them are excerpted below.

Official Press Release

Diablo ® III: Reaper of Souls ™ Unveiled

Upcoming expansion to the fastest-selling PC game of all time playable at gamescom

“Death, at last, shall spread its wings over all . . .”

COLOGNE, Germany–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The defeat of Diablo, Lord of Terror, should have given rise to an age of hope. Instead, it has drawn out a shadowy being of immense power, whose malevolent purpose is yet to be revealed. Announced today at gamescom, Diablo®III: Reaper of Souls™,the upcoming expansion to Diablo III, opens a dark and terrifying new chapter in the ongoing conflict over the mortal realm of Sanctuary.

Malthael, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom, vanished after the events depicted at the end of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction®. In Reaper of Souls, he returns as the Angel of Death and seizes the Black Soulstone, which contains the essence of the Prime Evil. It now falls to the players to track down Malthael and stop him before he unleashes irreversible havoc on the world.

Fortunately, a new hero is ready to join the cause and bring Malthael to justice—the Crusader. Driven by a centuries-long quest to cleanse the corruption blighting their beloved Zakarum faith, Crusaders are warriors of righteousness who have been hardened through relentless, brutal combat with the foul evils plaguing eastern Sanctuary. In addition to wearing immensely heavy armor and wielding a wide range of cruel and punishing weapons, this new playable class in Reaper of Souls uses battle magic to strengthen allies and weaken foes. A natural walking tank, the Crusader adds power and versatility to any party of adventurers.

“From the beginning, Diablohas always been about the struggle between good and evil, and Reaper of Soulsexplores the darker notes of that conflict,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “This expansion also represents a big milestone in the ongoing evolution of Diablo III, with key enhancements to the core gameplay, along with a new act to experience, a powerful new character class, tons of new loot, and even more end-game options. We think players will love playing Reaper of Souls, and we can’t wait to get it into their hands.”

In addition to taking the story of Diablo III from the legendary city of Westmarch to the unhallowed halls of the Pandemonium Fortress in Act V and introducing the incorruptible Crusader class, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls increases the game’s level cap to 70. Players continuing on with their existing Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Demon Hunter, Wizard, and Monk characters will benefit from an array of fearsome new spells and abilities as they advance in level.

The expansion also accentuates the key features of the Diablo franchise, with a greater emphasis on randomized environments to explore; epic new quests; horrific new monsters to defeat; and substantial updates to the loot experience, enabling players to further customize their characters with new and improved multilevel Legendary items, new Blacksmith and Jeweler item-crafting options, and more.

Diablo III’s Paragon progression system is also being majorly upgraded for the expansion, adding even more end-game character advancement and replayability. Two new game modes— DiabloWikiLoot Runs and DiabloWikiNephalem Trials —are being added as well, providing fun and rewarding challenges for players to tackle when they’re not busy saving the world.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is playable on the show floor at Gamescom, and Blizzard will be revealing further details about the expansion at BlizzCon and beyond as development progresses. About the Diablo Universe

Widely regarded as a benchmark for the action–role-playing game genre, Diablo(1996) introduced players to the dark, gothic world of Sanctuary and placed them at the center of what would be revealed to be a conflict between the angels of the High Heavens and demons of the Burning Hells over the fate of the world and its inhabitants. Diablo II(2000),along with its expansion, Lord of Destruction(2001), and several content patches that followed, took the series to new heights and depths, with an elaborate multi-act story, bold new character classes, and an intricate skill system. In Diablo III(2012), players return to the world of Sanctuary to again confront the Lord of Terror, supported this time by a vibrant cast of characters who join them in battle and aid them in other ways. With the upcoming release of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, players will face a powerful new adversary, uncover his dark plan for humanity—and take the fight to him in a desperate bid to save Sanctuary once more.

  1. I fuck|ng told you so a year ago. Crusader!
    Woho!

  2. Can’t wait to find out more.

  3. New level cap 70? Ok guys you guys got officially trolled by Blizzard. All items currently become worthless in each expansion.

    • OR maybe items will scale with level, like they said before,
and some of them are avaiable FROM some lvl?

    • As they always do. It is the Blizzard way.

    • Of course they’ll become worthless. That’s how Blizzard intends to revamp the loot system – by making the new loot so much better that the won’t need to nerf the old loot to make people want to upgrade. Which of this was news to you?

      • so you clearly missed 2 screenshots of puzzle ring. one for lvl40 and one for lvl70. why something similrac cant happen with Azurewrath (for example).?

        • No, you’re misunderstanding how scaled drops work. Once an item drops, it stays that level. The lvl 40 ring remains lvl 40, it doesn’t level up with you and become a lvl 70 ring. Blizzard illustrated this by showing you the current lvl 40 Puzzle Ring and what a Puzzle Ring may look like if you FOUND it at lvl 70.

    • I’m 100% fine with that.

  4. They included all the buzzwords, thats for sure…

    Loot, endgame, gothic, dark…

I miss the buzzwords Blessed Hammer and Concentration though.

  5. D3 going Wow style in other words

  6. Fu** yeah! Sounds awesome 😀

  7. Unless these Hydras have other unknown effects, this is simply another “+x% weapon as fire” skill.

  8. 15-20 minutes randomised dungeons (the Loot Runs) sounds especially cool.

  9. Stop. Hammertime!

  10. ATTACH=CONFIG]4677[/ATTACH]

    ROFLMAO. Sorr
So this is the example of loot 2.0.

    4677

ROFLMAO. Sorry, but that’s not encouraging at all.

  11. It was quite predictable that a Shield User was the next new class (right guess here: http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?847865-Diablo-3-Expansion-Announcement-Hinted-for-Gamescom&p=8545481&viewfull=1#post8545481). But at the time I was wrong about the amount of informatios that they will share at Gamescom. Basycally, they are doing a similar thing they have done for the reveal of D3. Hopefully we will not have to wait 4-5 years for the expansion …
For the informations so far, the Expansion seems promising. Also D3 was very promising at the beginning. So, feet on the ground this time.

I have seens the two videos. The cinematic intro is very very well done. One of the best (if not the best) D3 cinematic so far. The gameplay preview isn’t that good, but we have some hints inside.
But one think I don’t like is the Smart Drop. I hope that it will not apply to all (or the majority) of the items. And lol for the Legendary Wand

Anyway, waiting for more info. It seems that they have done some good and interesting things after all.

    • Agree 100%.

Another good idea are the loot dungeons, IF they manage to include a strong level randomization this time.

However, itemization still seems like a dull “hunt-the-biggest-number” game, but with even bigger numbers now. Also more BoA.

    • I sincerely hope that users will have an option to disable cutscenes entirely.

  12. Haha, I remember being bashed for claiming that D3X will rise the level cap. Lol. Another thing – BoA items. And new uniques? 3k DPS? Great! In 3rd expansion we will have 100k DPS items, and all the classes from D2 just named differently. And still, try to name this “WoW influence” and you’ll be called a troll.

    • There’s a difference between arguing that D3 is influenced by WoW because Blizzard wants D3 to be more like WoW, arguing that it’s influenced by WoW because WoW has a number of features and mechanics that would make D3 a better ARPG.

      • Rising the level cap -> making all the items obsolete is not making better ARPG. Just an example.

        • Making the old itemization system obsolete is the best way to introduce a better itemization system, so yeah, it absolutely does make the game better. And if they’re taking that step then they might as well introduce more power creep and increase the level cap so that people have an even bigger reason to play their old characters.

  13. I hope that the change-list is nowhere near final, other than that – everything they’ve revealed till now looks awesome:)

My hopes for BlizCon: Mystic Details, Paragon 2.0 details, Loot 2.0 details, announcement of Ironborn mode and Ladder System, even more end-game options (Loot Runs are fine, but moar is always better in terms of end-game), new follower and some love to the existing ones.

Overall, I’m happy with the announcement. The expansion sounds promising and the “darker” feel of it is really amazing:)

  14. So does this warrant an emergency podcast?

  15. This could be a nice patch. But expansion, lol. Three new monsters, just 1 new class and 1 new zone. More money for blizz…

    • I guess that there’s more new monsters and they just didn’t want to show all of them now to keep something for the release:) Also, I guess that there are more areas in Act V.

One new act is fine, Lord Of Destruction did it as well, but what I’m a bit disappointed about is only 1 new class.

    • it seems like a very small amount of changes, all changes that really couldve been added in a patch (and frankly shouldve been there since release), other than the new class of course. and only 1? come on. loot 2.0 doesnt look all that awesome either to be honest… unless they add more things, i wont be purchasing it.

  16. Only 1 new class??? meh… hope they will announce one more on Blizzcon later this year. Gameplay teaser is rather uninspiring… And how about lots of new cool random events in D3C Acts???

    • You expected more than one new class in an xpack? I think that’s pretty standard.

      • Didn’t Diablo 2 have 2 classes, the Druid and the Assassin?

      • Please see Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction.

      • I dont like the new incgamers ******** style towrards blizzard. And for the record , no , its not standard.

******* d2 xpac had two, now we have company that is much more succesful and has much more money to spend, yet we see less content???? Start being more critical.

        • There was only one xpack for D2, there are 2 for D3 so I imagine they’ll spread the two classes between them.

If you don’t like the tone of the news because it doesn’t conform to your opinions best jog on.

          • You gotta be straight up smoking blizz-crack there, Elly. (There are *four* lights!)

Where is this mythical 2nd expansion?? After all that blizz has promised and not come through on, where is this faith in a 2nd? And even if it is done, why would you settle for less content in each expansion just because there are two of them??

“No” is right on the money. I can go anywhere for mindless expansion hype.

          • Where is it? I’m guessing it’ll come after the first one.

I’m not settling for less content as far as I know. Like me, you have no idea what will end up being in RoS so I can’t say if it’s less or more than I expected. Neither can you.

          • This post is… wow. Just amazing job by PR and marketing everywhere, kudos to them.

You develop a set amount of content and it used to be that you released all of it, called it an expansion and sold it and everyone was happy. But now it comes with a twist… you develop same amount of content but release it as two expansions (you might call that doubling it!) and you spam everyone with enough marketing ploys that they actually accept it and scold others who say ‘waaaaaait a minute, what’s going on here?!’.

            Well done marketing guys everywhere.

        • The God states that a number of new classes is not so important, compared to a number of new builds for existing ones. IF the class diversity is increased to 5-6 viable builds with different playstyles, then it is worthy. If we still have 1 or 2 build per class, then even 5 new classes won’t help much.

[The God pauses a while to wonder about wisdom of raising level cap]

      • It’s a lot easier to create content for a sprite-based game but people seem to not realise this and keep complaining that D2X had 2 new classes. Go figure. Anyway it’s kind of expected that there will be at least one more expansion to D3 so a second extra class will come eventually.

        • guess dmb stands for dumb…again they sold 12 million copies (maybe more now) hot the fuck dont you understand it.

10xmore money /2x more work for that omg so hard shitty china made engine=
still equals more characters..wecept we get one..oh wait d2 had only one expansion and this has two planned…but yea go play more blizz advocate please and tell me how billion dollar companies cant make lot of a good content, while little companies like poe2 grinding gear are making weekly patches full of content.

        • What do you mean easier to create content for a sprite based game? That makes no sense. Isn’t it alot harder as it’s basically a drawing of sorts? 3D is a lot more flexible and thus more manageable.

  17. So basically the itemization remains the same.
The same dumb soul reaping horrible stats and they only change the drop rates a bit.
    Thanks but no thanks blizz.
Its gonna take more than that crap to make me throw money again on a blizzard game.
They are eons behind Path of Exile on all features yet they still have the nerve to scrape money for a insultingly low quality product.

    • Oh, there’s quality there. It just seems to be all in the polish, while being sapped out of the essence wherever possible… 🙁

  18. Just one question: Are we seeing the promotion of an arpg-expansion or a mmo-expansion here?

  19. hmm where is pvp?

  20. A new video recorded from Gamescom showing the crusader with commentary.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX3xu37dU1w

  21. Lots of appealing/promising things here but…Smart Drops? I am disappoint. 😐

  22. Pros: The drop rates of Loot 2.0, The darker graphics, the loot runs, ability to allocate stat points, Mystic, scaled legendaries (if implemented well).

Cons: Only one new class (so far). The Crusader class feels superfluous. We pretty much already have it. I was definitely hoping for a more distinct character here, like a Necromancer. The weapon DPS inflation, which follows what’s happened in WoW, do not want! This could be balanced with changes to the other items though, we need more info. No Paragon cap? Definitely don’t like this one. I want a set goal to strive for.

Looking forward to hearing more on the AH, Iron born, Ladders, HC, items, PVP.

    • No, if anything it’s the necro that feels superfluous. We already have two intelligence (caster) classes – one of which uses pets and poison skills – so a third one would add very little.

In contrast, there’s only one strength class and none built around the use of shields, so assuming the 6th class would be a shield-using strength class was kind of given.

As for the weapon DPS inflation, it has to be like that in order to make people willingly abandon their current, very good items. The only way to make weapons with super high crit damage and other similarly broken stats permanently outdated is to introduce items that deal more DPS without relying on those very stats, and that’s what’s happening here.

      • Don’t agree at all. Fans have been screaming for the Necromancer since launch. A lot of people want an all out summoner instead of the hybrid that is the Witch Doctor. The Crusader seems like some sort of mix between the monk and barb and doesn’t stand out from the rest just because he uses a shield (even less so from a HC perspective). There was also nothing stopping Blizzard from adding two new classes. The stat inflation is just another example of Blizzard’s band aid approach to fixing a broken item system and displays little to no innovation and novelty what so ever. But as I said, more information is required before any kind of conclusion can be drawn. This and my previous post is just a first reaction at today’s news.

        • With regards to the WD not being an all out summoner that may be true now, but perhaps they change that a bit so it becomes possible in the expansion? They said the existing classes would get changes and new skills after all.

        • PS – Fans have been screaming for the Paladin since launch too.

          • PS – I never said anything to the contrary, in fact I clearly stated nothing was stopping Blizzard from offering two new classes. My post was in direct response to Moonfrost’s statement that the necromancer was superfluous.

  23. New level cap? That’s obvious – you have more content so without any changes you’re 60 at nightmare and start hitting paragon levels. They could make you level up slower or just add more levels and this gives them a chance to breath some new wind into old classes with new skills and/or runes.
    Sharagon can be very interesting.
Crusader? Cool, but I still hope for one more class (blizzcon?), hopefully Druid :fortune:

  24. I am still hoping for a “free play” mode where all waypoints are active and all purple bosses are available, but there are never any cutscenes.

  25. i’m particularly excited about paragon 2.0, from the blurry images available on the web it seems they have incorporated manual attributes allocation, my guess is that with xpac your paragon level will turn into a separate, account wide feature, specifically it will be gone from your toons and turned into point (re-roll), you will instead get all the attribute points to distribute manually. now that sounds awesome, but needs a follow up in the form of increased attributes depth and inter-relations, attribute reqs on items would also be welcomed; why the fuck a which doctor with 100 str runs around with the same 2-hander a 2000 str barb uses, anyway…

  26. Be lying if I wasn’t a bit excited by the new class and the villain. Mal looks to be a pretty sweet villain. But I don’t know about that wand, godly sure, but damn, just boring stats with BIGGER NUMBERS.

    • Agree. I can’t relate to these numbers they are spewing out. But I remember Jay Wilson saying that bigger numbers makes you feel more awesome… so it’s from that.

  27. Shut up and take my money. I am so excited :))

  28. Who am I kidding – I’m excited, I will buy it, I can’t wait to play the Crusader and kill Death itself:)

Btw: “You cannot kill me, I’m death itself!” 😀

  29. A few thoughts and concerns:

The cinematic trailer looks good and the darker feel to the game is nice.
The changes to paragon, with some form of stat allocation, is slightly disappointing. It’s better, but I want to see true customization and the stat system for d3 is awful so it’s irrelevant anyway. I hope they have more substance to the “paragon 2.0”

I’m not very impressed with what they have shown for itemization. Still seeing standard CHD and sockets on weapons as the must and it seems like the overall itemization standard is going to remain the same. I’m not pumped for that at all. Lazy fixes seems to be the thriving design philosophy still. They better be reworking all those lower level and many current legendaries and adding game changing effects like the hydra wand. If they don’t do that their loot 2.0 is going to be short lived.

No pvp info yet, if they even get some in the game. Really pathetic.

Alright overall more info than I was expecting and the expansion is looking good, but if they don’t have a lot more info and changes to the game to show at blizzcon like pvp, actual itemization core changes, possibly rune ranks, ladders, maybe another class… well the games not going to hold returning players for long at all. Unless there is a lot of core changes being left out I’m not impressed with what they have done.

    • Exactly what I was thinking. Everyone seems to be excited for the exp, only because it’s some new levels, a new char and a beutiful cinematic. But blizzards still doing small lazy changes to a game that needs a total rework. D2 weill always be better than d3 it seems..

      • Maybe everyone is excited because they get what they want and that’s all they need?

        • If thay want a game that they can enjoy for one or two playthroughs, then I guess they get what they want.

        • Don’t get me wrong… I am excited, but I am not going into the expansion with high expectations at this point, nor am I planning on playing the game for more than a month. If what they talked about at gamescom is the jist of what they have in store for us then there is no way blizzard is going to make a “lasting legacy” out of d3 like d2.

      • The age old question – do the d3 devs actually believe the core design systems for d3 are good? The way damage works, the itemization, stats, current skill system with its runes etc. ?

I argue that yes they do think its all super awesome and the best thing they can do for the game. They admit improvements and tweaks are needed but not once have they come out and argued in favour of reworking a core design iteration for the game. In my mind this is why the devs really don’t get it. They take in the feedback and criticism and twist it around to accomodate core designs that already exist in the game and I don’t think it’s a result of a low budget or time. It seems like they generally think their stat system, skill system, and itemization philosophy is amazing.

I wasn’t excited to hear that Josh M. was the new lead dev for d3, was the former lead dev for console and was appointed by the great master Jay P. Wilson. d3 needed new blood and a new vision and what they got was the same people who thought up bad and broken designs to begin with.

I’ll hop off my soapbox here and just point out that for the players really excited and hyped for the expansion… you are in for some disappointment if you are really disappointed with d3 currently. From what we know (and that could and hopefully will change) the larger picture for d3 remains the same short lived and shallow game. The only thing that is really different is the loot runs with randomized dungeons. What good is that when the items and builds are largely boring?

  30. Sweet. Paragon no longer has a cap. System sounds a lot like Borderland 2’s bad ass ranks, which let you keep levelling while getting endless bonuses to your characters. So woo-hoo.

    • I could be mistaken, but it seemed like people were saying that there was a limit to the allocation of stats or whatever to a specific character.

  31. Looking forward to this. Excited about changes to paragon system and loot changes.
If the paragon levels should be converted into some sort of point system to distribute over chars, that would be awesome for people with at least one P100 🙂

  32. FLUX:

Changes to the game systems will come as a free patch:
    http://eu.battle.net/d3/pl/forum/topic/7960896792#13

    Translation:
Forum user: “It’s likely that when the expansion comes out (or shortly before that) there will be a 2.0 patch.”
Wuluxar (Blizzard): “Changes to the game systems will come in a patch preceeding the release of the expansion – they will be available to all players, including the ones that don’t have the expansion (of course for free).”

  33. http://images.scribblelive.com/2013/8/21/c8e3c1ef-a382-4984-8f33-9ab5453218c2_800.jpg

New fist weapon. 35% crit damage, yes, very low, but perhaps some sign of CD/CC overhaul?

  34. Also, there has been a press release about the expansion, but it seems to not be working at the moment.

    This site captured it:
    http://www.fool.com/investing/businesswire/2013/08/21/diablo-iii-reaper-of-souls-unveiled.aspx

One new interesting thing – “The Nephalem Trials”:)

  35. PvP arena’s please, me and my friends who quit d3 after 2 months are literally still wondering if those will every come out, really looked forward to that for like 8months before launch, playing against other ppl with my friends etc.

  36. The stars are identical to the one beside one of the fist stats so perhaps they are linked or an added bonus of some sort.

    • Perhaps this is the answer to the stars

“…enabling players to further customize their characters with new and improved multilevel Legendary items, new Blacksmith and Jeweler item-crafting options, and more.”

“Leveled” legendaries that can be upgraded by the mystic so that if you find a good but not great item, you can upgrade it to make it better

  37. I really want to see more than just the Crusader class and skills revamping being announced. Trailers were good. How on earth are we going to kill the Reaper of Souls?

  38. When I saw the Crusader class, the first thing that came to my mind was, that I am seeing a Barbarian class in a different armour set. If you look properly on him, he is using the same animation set (“running”, swinging with weapon) and also looks like it is also the same model (the same huge musculature body). Some presented skills also looks like a re-colored old skills (e.g. lightning) which is sad (12mil sold copies).

    • We almost all knew that the next class was a Strength character so it’s not surprising. They took the good parts of the Paladin, named it something else and added some related skills to package it up.

I assume he also has the inherent 30%DR like other melee classes.

As long as the skills are interesting and hopefully balanced (as well as the other classes being fixed with replacement runes for the ones that were not very good) I think it will be fine.

  39. Does anyone has any info if there are going to be additional character slots available in the expansion? You know there are a lot of people with 10x 60 levels.

Does anyone has any info if there are going to be additional character slots available in the expansion? You know, there are a lot of people with 10x 60 levels.

    Most likely, yes

    • You’ll still have to even up those 60 chars to 70.

With Paragon now shared across I assume you will inherit from the highest paragon account wide to all chars instantly.

I hadn’t finished leveling my chars on hardcore for the 10 chars at 60 achievement so I think I’ll wait for this expansion to hit so I have fun leveling some new chars in the old revamped acts with new monsters and hopefully areas.

  41. Now how cool is that lvl70 Puzzle Ring? *wipes drool*

  42. I hope they are going to implement different damage types that does different damage, instead of just different colors on weapons. Smart implementation of different damage types may even fix some of the D3 core problems, like making obselete skills useful (wouldn’t ww all the time against physical resist characters), making different areas differently challenging based on your build, etc..

  43. Still no PvP?

    Really?

  44. One thing stands out: Loot 2.0. That means the so awaited loot patch is actually part of D3X? Conspiracy! What if D3X hits this winter 2013?

  45. No extra stash tabs for more space? BLIZZ FAIL!

  46. Sad is the day that I watch a Diablo expansion announcement and don’t feel excited.

  47. I am excite! 😀

Allright, the actual new clas of Crusader seems like a fantastic addition to the game, seeing as the classic zeal-fanaticism build was really an all time favorite archtype of mine. Sword & Board all the way. Tanky, sturdy and durable!

While I love the very dark atmosphere of the 5th act (And I have to say that Westmarch and the Zakarum temples are a GREAT idea that fit well into the lore of the game), what I am really excited about are the new paragon and item systems 2.0, as well as many other new systems which are probably not yet annouced.

Once we learn more about those systems and how they will work, I am sure most of our hype will get back into overdrive here on the forums!

    All in all, I can’t wait! 😀

    • Lore? in D3? Are you sure?)
A5 dark? If so then not that muck… for me it looks like the same cartoonish bluish stuff like graveyard/prison in A1…
Paragon – ill tell u what to do, put all point in MS/CC/CD/Vita – you won!))
New “SMART ITEMS” – muahahaha, sadly its not 1st april :/

It’s interesting because there are 4 different sections, the core points are for vit, str, dex, int. The next 3 categories are “Attack” “Defense” “Utility” so I’m not sure what is going to be under those categories, our skills maybe, do we invest points into our “Attack Skills” “Defensive Skills” etc. It’s a good start.

http://s14.directupload.net/images/130821/dzop83qu.jpg Chance on kill to summon a hydra… I don’t know it reminds of the sword that has a chance on hit to summon a fire chained demon while it seemed cool initially it turned out it sucked and was just some fancy crap. I suppose the only difference here is that this is a chance on kill so multiple hydras could spawn which could be useful.

    • also seems like they color stats differently so that you can spot class specific things more easily and unique stats get their unique color too

  51. As far as loot runs, I think I preferred the Torchlight 2 version. TL2 offered a map system. You could load up a map which would take you to a loot run that you could run as many times as you like.

The difference is that each map itself had several unique modifiers. You might find a really cool map that had + magic find built in, but also increased monster damage. Or you might find a map that had +gold find, but decreased your damage by x%.

Loot runs seem like a simplified version. Still an improvement, but TL2 is still offering something better.

So, they did what I thought they would do and added obvious and direct legendary properties that specifically buff a skill or build, rather than giving the stats more depth as to allow the player to be creative and create unique builds based on itemization themes.

And wtf is with those legendary stats? Damage, mainstat and socket? I thought we were getting more diversity with itemization, not generic WoW-type weapons.

    Sigh.

    • Yep. lazy or they just don’t get what the core problem is. Also the monk fist weapon affix with global cooldown is a really low value. The gameplay video of the crusader and his flail legendary also rolled the same affix so it is likely…

Global Cooldown reduction is a new affix for the game. It’s a cool affix, but the value is so low that it either has to roll up to 10+ and on a few different pieces or roll on lots of gear slots to really be useful.

  53. New character slots?
    New bag space?
    Ranked Arena PVP?

    Release Date??

  54. also, what happens to the people who’ve already leveled up in Paragon?
@peli_can_flip Bonuses are retroactive. I.E. If you have two p100 heroes right now, the current plan is that you’d have 200 points in ROS.

  55. Only 1 class and 1 act. 😐
    No PvP. 🙁
Explain better the loot changes maybe. 😕
Randomization as expansion feature. What? oO That has got to be a joke!!!

    Skip cutscenes?
Fix “A History of New Tristram” bug at least.

Seems they are cutting content already for d2x2. :[
Either that or since they aren’t used to non blizzcon reveals they are saving stuff for later…

  56. Ano no other hireling, or chance of having all hirelings out in solo mode.

  57. I’m excited about the expansion. I been playing a lot more D3 these days and have been enjoying it a lot.

  58. Hammerdin and loot runs? Back to paragon runs, I guess…

  59. Nice! I’ve always wanted to play as the Templar! Cant’ want for the next expansion and the announcement of the Entranceress! If we’re lucky, they will add a Witch Doctor follower that leads the way and we auto follow. He even picks all the gear up for us! Our 4 skill slots just play really annoying sound bytes and the runes change cadence and tone! The third expansion introduces the Scalawag class. This expansion comes with a new peripheral device for a new game mode! A huge rubber dong you can attach to your CD drive so that Blizzard can actually fuck us instead of charging us 3 times for the same shitty content!!

  60. Gets the blood pumpin o’right! 🙂

  61. HAHA, some of you are so emo.

    I’M SO HYPED FOR THIS.

  62. I am so glad with the change to the paragon system, that it is now account wide.

Glad I didn’t grind to lvl 100 paragon on more then one character lol.

  63. Anyone notice the “Coming 2014” part yet?
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/reaper-of-souls/

  64. I hope that the Crusader’s skills are balanced such that using a shield improves his offense (like with the Paladin in D2) rather than have him be just another character that dual wields.

  65. Some good things for sure, but mostly disappointment from all the things that is not happening. Stuff like Smart drops is not a solution, that is just “improving” a fundamentally broken system. Making it even less likely the broken system will actually be fixed. There shouldn’t be items that is ‘best for your class’ And since those items shouldn’t exist, ‘smart drops’ shouldn’t make them more likely to drop. Seriously Blizzard, you kept saying you understood this basic itemization 101 when talking about Items 2.0, but apparently not. Remake main stats already.

  66. Looking at the new items it seems that they learned nothing. I won’t be getting this.

  67. Well, so here’s confirmation about what they’ve been doing over the past months instead of fixing the main game. Apparently they don’t even intend to address the main issues in the paid content patch they call expansion. Let’s dissect this then:

Intro cinematic – same nice visuals, same low concept story.

New class, new runes – with the Barbarian and Monk in place, I don’t think there is enough room for more Paladin recycling. Classes already feel too similar gameplay-wise; even more runes for existing skills will only bloat a system that actually needed some serious trimming in order to offer meaningful choices.

New act, 10 more character levels – I was afraid that would happen, only one new act, worth a couple of hours of fresh gameplay. Not a single word on how they plan to improve the lacking ‘input material’ for randomization of dungeons. The atmospheric theme is a good choice but will suffer under D3’s graphic style all the same.

New monsters – Besides Malthael from the cutscene, there isn’t much to be impressed by. More of the undead, more corrupted angels, more chinese outerspace-alien demons.

‘Many NEW forms of the end game’ – like the one you already know and the other you could already have. Unlimited paragon levels sounds like a nice idea but only shows arbitary and low-concept this approach ist. Fully separating character levels and account levels seems like a step in to the right direction though; they should use the oppurtunity to integrate that useless achievement system into account levels. ‘Loot runs’ as new game mode sounds like something you could chose to do in D1 and D2 whenever you liked and in order to make it impossible D3 implemented a its own wonky quest/progression/reward system. By the sound of it, they don’t have any more specific ideas about what this could be than we do at the moment. I’d file it under ‘talk about obscure ideas for future content that will never see the light of day’.

Improved loot – affixes and drop chances need to be reworked completely, not slightly pushed into a direction where you need a little less luck every now and then to get something worth consideration. ‘Smart loot’ wouldn’t be neccessary with a working stats/attributes/affix system in place – there’s your chance to fix a major system from the ground up, instead it’s getting bloated even further.

Transmogrification – to make your costumers pay extra for non-standard gear designs as in WoW, yes?

  68. Wanted to be excited and hyped for this but so far it does feel a bit lackluster. A step forward I’m sure but..

Ladder? Ironborn mode? PVP? Free travel through acts? Skipping cutscenes (can’t believe I just said that, what is this, the new ducktales)?

I like the changes to the Paragon system even though the details are scarce at this point. I guess it could work as a ladder of sorts. I haven’t seen the AH mentioned/advertised which gives me some hope they might understand the need for Ironborn.. probably not though.

Loot 2.0 seems better, but then again I would be fairly fine even with the current loot if it wasn’t for the AH. From the legendary examples shown I do wonder if they’re actually gonna go far enough with it though.. the “great examples” Josh gave seemed fairly boring compared to the more wackier ideas thrown around previously. Also it doesn’t sound like they’re actually redoing any of the core mechanics regarding damage types and how different weapon types act and so on, which if true is quite disappointing.

I wonder if they’re gonna screw with the story by continuing the death of Deckard Cain by killing Tyrael too. Honestly though the sad thing is at this point I’m so focused on the gameplay systems and endgame side of things that it’s hard to get excited about anything from a lore standpoint. I just hope they have _a lot_ more to show at Blizzcon.

  70. I wonder how it’s going to work for HC for characters that are dead/archived. For example, I currently have 5 characters between paragon level 5 and 15, but I have multiple paragon 20-50 heroes archived. Will archived heroes have an impact on paragon level, or is HC only giving you a bonus from living heroes? I actually think only receiving paragon bonuses from living heroes would be best for HC.

  71. I gotta be honest…the new D3 team still has their work cut out for them when it comes to getting me to trust them enough to throw money on the Diablo franchise again. If we get 1 or two good patches by the end of this year, it could go a long way towards swaying me to want to pick up this expansion.

Having said that…bringing Paladin back is gonna make it real tough to say no =X

It has to be living only tbh. How many dead characters can you have? People could just remake characters over and over and lvl to 20 for example, just to avoid the grind to 100 – since each plvl seems to be valued equally in the transition to RoS.

    • I doubt they’ll really implement it that way – having 10 characters with plvl10 is obviously much less work than a single plvl100…

      • “I doubt they’ll really implement it that way – having 10 characters with plvl10 is obviously much less work than a single plvl100…”

True, but the total exp required to reach P10 10x is far less than to reach P100 once. I assume the system will adds up exp gained, rather than levels.

  73. QUOTE

Random dungeons sounds great. Best thing I've heard so far.

15-20 minute runs on the other hand. Sigh. One of the worst things Ive heard so far.

Of course having short-run support and long-run support isn't mutually exclusive. Except for Blizzard in their current state I'm afraid.

It means they will be a lot of clicking through the menus and visits to the AH(hopefully RMAH for blizzard’s sake) in between the runs. Totally in line with what they are aiming for.

  74. 15-20 minute runs sound perfect. That’s about how long I play at a time right now.

If these new “runs” have some higher reward at the end rather than just “one last pack” before I log off, that would be fantastic.

But I also agree that longer runs should be an option too.

  75. I didn’t expect that, they shared a lot of infos. Now I wonder what they’re going to show at the Blizzcon.

  76. Totally missed this until now, are all legendaries account bound? God damn that would be nice.

  77. “The expansion also accentuates the key features of the Diablo franchise, with a greater emphasis on randomized environments to explore; epic new quests; horrific new monsters to defeat; and substantial updates to the loot experience, enabling players to further customize their characters with new and improved multilevel Legendary items, new Blacksmith and Jeweler item-crafting options, and more.”

You mean the things that D3 should have been designed around to begin with?

There’s not enough depth in this game. Nothing has changed with this expansion. Just more of the same. Everything still seems to be completely on rails and completely contrived, shallow, and uninspired.

Just contract development out to Runic, Blizzard. You fail.

  78. So, basically they’re not changing gameplay. Big middle finger to the gaming community. Lovely.

    • I’d like something where you can actually be creative with your character build. Something where you can take lesser used skills and find ways to customize your character to make them useful. As it is the lack of customization makes the game incredibly repetitive and boring. Using other skills in new ways would give the game a big boost. If there was some way to actually control the power of skills that is.

  80. Hahaha, I love how there are 20 haters-whiners-trolls recommanding each other’s posts!

  81. Awesome trailer but otherwise the crusader looks meh hopeful for the new loot system but otherwise will wait until after release instead of buying into the hype this time since the game was a disappointment for me, have path of exile in the mean time anyway.

  82. So, why doesn’t tyrael want to destroy the soul stone? I don’t get it. We destroyed them in diablo 2.

  83. Yep. Too bad the -1 button has gone 🙂

  84. Destroying the soulstone did not destroy the souls since they were captured by the black soulstone…

    🙂

  87. so, we have to destroy the black soulstone then? Why wont tyrael do it?

also, i hope they remove the AH.

  88. I have played Diablo and Dibalo II for many years. Diablo III is corporate garbage. I hoped that the expansion would stop the botting but once again they have convinced me that they are only greedy… Botting, banning a buying again is their policy.

Diablo III for me is a dead game.

  89. So.. crusader. Monk.

    Auras. Mantras.
    Melee class. Melee class.
Uses STR and being tanky. Uses DEX and being fragile.
Has tons of AoE. Has ton of AoE.
Has tons of Crowd Control. Has tons of Crowd control.
Can disappear to avoid and deal damage. Can disappear to avoid and deal. damage.

Even the backstory (being the uncorruptable holy warrior who fights for the peace and “light in general”) is stolen.

What does a Monk have (propably not daibos…) that makes him not completely obselate now that the crusader aka. Barb with all the monk features is in the game? Movespeed? Pffffft.

  90. Why blizzard become so dumb ?
    Just get a look:
    1) + ~400 for stat from 1 item.
OMG. Do you really care is it +400 or +404 on item when you have like 4k of stats in total just from items !?? OHHH BIG NUMBERS!!!! THAT’S SO EPIC !
    2) DIABLO 3 DO NOT HAVE STORY AT ALL! SHEDIABLO! ?!? ANGEL OF DEATH !?!? Rly ? Blizzard you watch Supernatural too much. It’s like 10 season. Just brilliant.
3)That new class….. just fuck it. another shit. No restrictions on weapons, no restriction on tactics/play styles.
I just don’t know how blizzard could fall so low.
I loved diablo series. I loved vanila wow, but now i don’t see any future for blizzard as good gamedev company. They should go for mobile game market.

  91. i agree with a lot of previous comments, loot looks to still be shit, summoning a goblin?,wtf? really? so i can get another shitty legendary-brimstone, how is that epic or build-affecting? what i really see on these items is more mainstat, more crit, socket, etc. meh, boring, bigger numbers, bigger dps, puke, as of today, i am not getting the xpac on day 1

  92. only 1 new class? meh… and all the other shit? not very impressed.

    Yeah, more Baldur's Gate...

Agree, I think the gameplay is already very good.

...As for the weapon DPS inflation, it has to be like that in order to make people willingly abandon their current, very good items. The only way to make weapons with super high crit damage and other similarly broken stats permanently outdated is to introduce items that deal more DPS without relying on those very stats, and that's what's happening here.

Yup - makes me kind of glad I stayed with the self-found/GAH path instead of going RMAH.

OTOH, higher DPS ranges might make MP10 easier than intended, so then you have to turn up the difficulty. Not sure endlessly higher DPS is a good long term move. Right now MP8 is the sweet spot for my wizard -- she kills reasonably quickly, but some elite packs can be a protracted battle. But double the DPS on her weapon and things would be dying too quickly to appreciate whatever new artwork they add.
  94. Only bad thing about the stat increase is the sillines of high numbers. Which is psychological of course.

It could start to get silly when you do 53535552452525253 dps and an item got 452445 strength etc. WoW has that problem – according to Blizzard themselves – and it looks like they are making a repeat here.
There is no easy solution to that of course, since you can only fix it by reducing all numbers by 99,99% and such. Which does represents a small problem for early game (0,000001 str is as silly as 100000 of course).

    • yes i agree wholeheartedly shadoutmapes. i have never understood why we need so high numbers. is it because it’s supposed to be impressive seeing CRITICAL HIT 53535552452525253 DAMAGE?

i was fine with 10k dps in d2. it just annoys me having to work with 20 decimals. and expecially in the ah where you can’t use separators for all those decimals.

  95. I don’t know if it’s already been brought up but, I didn’t see it in the main bullet points, so maybe you missed it. Paragon 2.0 now allows character customization. Watch the end of the Loot 2.0 Presentation video above for details.

  96. You noticed “only” 35% crit damage on this perfect dps fist? So before you start complain maybe wait for some information instead of this 2-liners :thankyou:

  97. Overall i’m happy with all this new information. I excepted a lot less like just a cinematic so all this information is a bit overwhelming!

I’m especially really curious about the paragon 2.0 system.

This is all speculating but as it is now i recon we get two extra character slots because Josh Mosqueira said we can have paragon level 1200 in the loot 2.0 presentation. This will be a problem for a lot of hardcore players whom still have their softcore characters. because if you are an active player they (softcore characters) just take space that can be used to boost your paragon account level. I think we should have e.g. 10 hardcore character slots and 10 softcore character slots. But again this is all speculation maybe we will get exactly that but they have not mentioned it yet because it will also reveal the ironborn mode ^^, 10HC slots, 10SC slots 10IB slots!

Another problem i foresee with the paragon 2.0 system is the reverse of the incentive to play certain characters. as it is now there is little incentive to play lower level characters because of the item hunt but the opposite will happen with account paragon levels, especially with hardcore.
with this new system it does not make any sense to ever play my level 100 paragon hardcore character again, which is kinda weird because it’s my main character… also if you are e.g. level 90 it doesn’t make a lot of sense to continue if you can just make another lower level. diminishing returns for the amount of characters you have would make sense.

Another problem is that hardcore will feel less hardcore! I mean with paragon 2.0 the max level will be 1200 but what if you have e.g. 3 level 100 characters. you will never start from level 1 if you die but always from level 300.

  98. QUOTE

No, you're misunderstanding how scaled drops work. Once an item drops, it stays that level. The lvl 40 ring remains lvl 40, it doesn't level up with you and become a lvl 70 ring. Blizzard illustrated this by showing you the current lvl 40 Puzzle Ring and what a Puzzle Ring may look like if you FOUND it at lvl 70.

I like this change. Borderlands 2 and Sacred 2 already had that as well. You could find the same orange/unique item 20 levels later again and it would have improved stats compared to the first one.

  99. Paragon 2.0 will be D3X only or both Loot and Paragon 2.0 are also for D3C ? IF yes, D3C will act as a big PTR to decide whether to buy D3X.

  100. For the computation of the shared paragon level, they should add up the XP of all characters and not the plvl. Else, a player with 1 plvl 100 will end with the same level as another with five toons with plvl 20. Using the max plvl for the sharagon is better (since 1 char plvl 100 is much harder than 5 chars plvl 20) but is still unfair.

  101. I am impressed with how much of the expansion seems to be up & running already. Love everything I’ve seen of it so far. Just hope they don’t decide to remove half of it at the last minute again! Can’t wait for Blizzcon!

  102. QUOTE

they can add in stat allocation all they want, but if they dont change the way primary stats work, its just going to be all main stat in softcore, all vitality in hardcore....

    There are three other tabs.

  103. Looks great. Love inside/outside transitions, the “smart loot” which is loot tailored just for you, more interesting loot stats (pull in monsters with that leggie), THE CRUSADER! (need I say more?), gothic architecture and feel, the lore seems GREAT so far. I’m PUMPED for this expansion. Blizzard may yet restore my faith in D3.

😛 Now only if they make it 3 difficutlyies (remove Inferno) and fix that story in D3C.. game would be perfect.

  105. Like… a way to dodge attacks? Yet Ivan E says it is possible…

  106. I guess it’s all anyone actually wanted. Hammerdins, forever and ever as far as the eye can see. Still not seeing soul-bound/account bound stuff to help slow gear inflation. Still no skill runes as items (maybe the “new” legendaries fix that?).

    And finally…

    PEE

    Eh, I dunno

I’m generally not frustrated when playing, which I can’t say for every game, or even most games. Click on monsters until they die, everything is responsive, get out of the fire / “okay stop dots” for a change of pace. It’s not bad.

  109. Man… I was sooooo hoping to see my druid again.

  110. The main cinematic gave me chills. I am loving all that they have shown. But before I get too excited. I want to eventually hear how they will make the self-found way of playing more fun. As well as some form of character customization, PRIOR to getting Paragon levels, to make your characters not exactly the same.

  111. This looks like same old crap. Not seeing any radical changes to the current system. And the story is completely bonkers, first they say that Malthael wants to destroy all demons, and then they state “…to track down Malthael and stop him before he unleashes irreversible havoc on the world”.

So, destroying demons is something we don’t want? I’m confused.

Not really excited, probably won’t buy.

  112. Haven’t played D3 for 6 months now but I’m definitely going to buy the expansion.
Remember that there’s still hope, just like with D2 before LoD and the big patches back then.

All the things they revealed right now sound better than what we currently have. I just hope the price will be 30 Euro max.

    • I do hope the price is below 30 euros. As things stand we’re only getting one class and one act. The other stuff should have been added by now. We were swindled in the first place.

  113. And can’t help myself and not comment on these ‘build enabling uniques’…are they kidding with us, how in the world are those build enablers?

THESE are examples of build enabling uniques:

  114. All these changes are neat and all, but at least from the initial videos and stats it looks like they’ve failed to answer the true call and fix the way itemization works. All these new items and ways to get them in loot 2.0 won’t mean anything if it still boils down to main stat + damage mods > everything else.

Fixing the way you get new loot or making it more viable outside the AH doesn’t help if the loot itself and how it affects your character continue to be an uninteresting mess. I want to be excited for this expansion, but I just don’t see anything here that fixes the biggest fundamental problem D3 has had since the get go.

  115. The crusader looks like Haldu from Diablo 2 act 4 in the pandemonium fortress.
    Same armor and everything.

    “Vat do you need?”

  116. Man, I cant wait for them to change things around 100 times and then release in 2016!

  117. Won’t be buying the xpac unless non-primary attributes get a big buff, elemental damage gets their function back, and we can add socket.

  118. QUOTE

I agree. Really Surprised they're still sticking with the main stat BS when it's been pointed out just as much as anything else; off stats need to be useful!!!!! Where is elemental damage functions, where are affixes like "adds 5% of your total cold resists to damage as cold damage" is this too complicated for their elderly internal game testers?

    Also,
http://s14.directupload.net/images/130821/dzop83qu.jpg* Chance to summon hydra on kill*
how is that any different than this

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/maximus#best

" Chance to summon a Demonic Slave when attacking." This sounded cool when it was first released but then everyone realized it sucked and was just some fancy crap.
These new legendary stats are not "new" they're just patch 1.04 but "doubled".
    • It’s different in almost every way. There is no limit on how many hydras can be summoned, as stated by Josh in the panel.

Subject to change of course, but that item alone is a Wizard game-changer in its current iteration.

      • The thing is that, ok as a wizard we are killing trash mobs in about 8 seconds. By the time this hydra stat procs all the mobs should be dead which means the hydras weren’t that useful. Also what about the hydra skill itsself, this legendary affix should be buffering that skill in some way

        • Yeah….this thing doesn’t create new builds, it just takes whatever build you’re using and adds random hydras to it. It’s not you can plan a build around random hydras.

          • Who is saying it creates new builds? It is a game-changer. The goal is to create competition between items that don’t strictly cater to the main-stat-crit-high damage denominator.

Right now everybody cares about the same thing on an item (except main stat). Yes, it’s still important. It always will be. But the current affect of a hydrastorm has not yet been quantified.

I think if this weapon alone creates competition between what was desirable previously, it’s job is done. Again, too many unknowns to confirm or deny.

  119. Doubled is so 2012. In 2014 everything will be tripled.

The lack of talk about new affixes on non-legendary items was discouraging for sure.
Remeber before release when Blizzard talked about the huge amount of affix ideas they had – after people pointed out how bad the itemization was – promising that new affixes would be add over time, even after release. Yeah right.

  120. No itemization change?
    Metzen not kicked out?
    One unoriginal class?
    SPOILER: it will be bad

  121. Really?

The fucking retarded Black Soulstone plot is being reused???

    OH. MY. GOD?

    • I’m not so sure about re-used, so much as continued. Either way, I have learned not to expect much from the Diablo team in way of major plot points. Often times the best pieces are those you have to look for, which seems counter-intuitive.

  122. Please bring back the Talisman or a new iteration of charms. Loot is still so homogenized. Loot 2.0 is a good direction, but they need to emphasize build-based sets. Charms are a great way to add granulation.

There’s still Blizzcon of course, but I’m very interested in a loot system that extends beyond what is strictly worn/wielded.

Also, PvP. Speaking of balls dropped, the only reason I stopped playing is due to this and the lack of a community and battle.net social features. Diablo has a community that has fed on the developer’s bad decisions. They need to rebuild the community, and there are very few options to make that happen.

    We need:
-Chat channels where people see each other’s characters.
    -Clan/Guild support
-PvP and community support for the feature
-Custom Game Lobby (there’s no reason not to – look at League of Legends)
-Open-World game modes that don’t require plot progression.

As it stands right now with the information we know, it is a glorified patch save for the new class. It is all steps in the right direction. It all “sounds” good. The cinematic was great. The tone is much darker. The game seems to have be working towards a new identity.

I look forward to playing it Blizzcon – especially if PvP is re-introduced.

    • I was kinda thinking the same thing – the new class/act are things you’d expect only in am xpac but the rest frankly sounds like a really big patch. Or should I say a really big bandaid.

    • Talisman will come as a new feature of the second expansion, silly!

  123. Sockets, main stat buffs, a summoning Witch Doctor, Loot 2.0 (released beforehand) and less taunting by the bosses would make me a happy D3 player.

  124. I feel like they have taken the easy way out and are not truly fixing the fundamental flaws of the game. Perhaps there is more they are not showing us, but if their solution to fixing the AH vs Self-found problem is to raise the flaw on all items, than they seriously do not know what they are doing.

Because that would make the AH “problem” much worse.

Secondly, the reason itemization isn’t fun is three dimensional. It’s got a little to do with the stats themselves, but A LOT more to do with the skills system being so homogeneous. That is, affixes are equally beneficial to every build, class etc, and not diverse. From what I’ve seen on the few legendary’s they’ve shown so far, they have not at all fixed this problem. Loot 2.0 looks and feels like one a content patch, rather than the overhaul it needs.

You expected more than one new class in an xpack? I think that's pretty standard.

Elle you are defending Diablo 3 and blizzard so much that is (not) even funny…

Diablo 2 exp gave player two very unique classes. One huge new act with plenty of different biomes, plenty of new monsters and great story.

Blizzard is getting more lazy with every game from what i see, you can feel Activision touch nearly everywhere.

WoW already dropped from 12m to 8m because of pandas*.

I will be very impress if D3X will sell 10% compared to D3.

Blizzard really need cold water shower.

    * not only that.

Well...D2 LoD added 2 new classes but the old classes didn't get new skills like D3 RoS is adding. So it sort of trades off.
  129. I’d frankly be more interested in them fixing/improving what already there than adding new chars and levels.

I’d rather see new skills for the existing classes — new runes and some rebalancing.

The druid and assassin in LoD never quite matched the original classes. Hopefully the crusader will round out the current options for strength-based characters and be somewhat original.

  131. that cinematic was SO FUCKING EPIC
damn, i almost shat my pants….(ok, no)

  132. After seeing the changes to be made in expansion, I can safely say that I have no desire to buy it.

Diablo 3’s beautiful graphics mask the fact that it is an extremely shallow game. Better hope Titan somehow revolutionizes something otherwise Blizzard may as well just be pumping out a new CoD-esque expansion every year.

Just started getting into PoE and although i much prefer the look of D3, I quickly realized that there is no depth to D3 at all.

  133. It doesn’t change a wizard’s play style at all. you play exactly the same as you did without the hydra wand, except now you occasionally do extra passive damage.

D3 as an JRPG would have been amazing.

  136. Is anything being done about itemization (as in making more than a handful of stats actually viable)? Or are they only addressing drops?

  137. QUOTE

Is anything being done about itemization (as in making more than a handful of stats actually viable)?

No info has been given one way or the other though they have said in the past that it is one of their goals.

  138. Seems more and more clear that Blizzard is just becoming all pretty flashy showy marketing, and no actual substance. Substance and quality gameplay is a giant part of why Blizzard is what it is today, but they seem to have long abandoned that notion.

The direction they’re headed just doesn’t seem like a good one. They’re so intent on just making box sales and catering to the lowest common denominator (see: Bashiok’s grandmother). They don’t care about true gamers, or gameplay, for that matter. It’s rather sad.

There’s SO much this expansion could do. There’s giant opportunity. Either they’re genuinely TRYING to fix things, but failing anyway… or they just don’t give a sh*t and have some ignorant designers just doing whatever is the easiest and whatever will make a sale.

I feel like they are doing just barely enough to try and get box sales, just enough to get by; but beyond that, they really couldn’t care less. Their reputation got hammered with Diablo 3… it was already wavering, and D3 confirmed it in a HUGE way. Does Blizzard not see the writing on the wall, or are they so swept up in their own narcissism and cynicism that they can’t?

So many people want to like this game (and are trying), it’s just lacking so, SO much substance and any kind of depth. It’s a hacked together design, hacked together game with a terrible story and worse music. The expansion looks good on the surface, but it just seems like more of the same. Things that should have been in the original game are seen in the expansion. Plus, where’s ladder, social features, pvp, skipping the cutscenes or between acts, ironborn, socketing items… the list goes on. I hope there’s a lot more they haven’t shown that will be shown at Blizzcon, but that is doubtful. Have this gut feeling people will buy the expansion, hoping it will vastly improve D3, only to realize a month or two later it’s just more of the same drivel.

    Ah, ok. Thanks 🙂

  140. I really hope there will be more open spaces and room to move around in act5, since the beginning does suggest an even more linear gameplay than act4 🙁

Raise your DPS and switch up the runes you're using.
I thought meteor was useless when my character was doing 80K damage. Now she's closer to 280K, using frost nova and the cold blooded rune, and it's like a new game. Also tried spectral blades with a source that had a spectral blades damage boost to good effect.

I'd like to see more balance among the runes, but overall the D3 system gives a lot more options than the simple skill points of D2, where for example meteor was just meteor, and you could add skill grand charms to increase the damage -- but that was about it.

Both types would be good. Some of the best runs I've been on recently included the Halls of Agony/Cursed Hold, and I think the Fields of Slaughter is equally good (and one of the hardest areas in the game).

I cant even begin to imagine finding gear to get 280k dps.

Anyway, a game where the skills only start to become useful when you “outgear” everything by a large margin, is not exactly well-designed either.

The weapon has no crit damage, so its real dps is about half. It has no ls, so unless you can get that elsewhere using it is suicide. Hydra doesn’t work with trifecta, so about the only thing hydra on kill will kill is your computer.

  144. How about every time your hydra deals damage there is a chance to spawn another hydra or something like that. Would be more of a skill changer than the proposed item, since that one has just about 0 interaction with your skills.

  145. QUOTE

Also, I imagine giant packs of hydras with nothing to do because they spawn after you already obliterated everything on screen. Seems like they should've maybe done something other than chance on kill to proc.

And that. No oneis single target in this game, especially after “loot runs” were revealed as AoE spam.

277K DPS through gold and items that dropped in the game — and GAH sales of the occasional high end item that didn’t work for a wizard. Total gold found from version 1.00 to date is about 210,000.

Just took a lot of killing and some patience to trade for what I needed.

    Basically the endgame…

Not really because new classes = new style that may appeal to someone.

Quite obvious when you see how many people ask about druid/shapeshifter for example, don't you think?

Current classes have enough skills they are just bad, bland, boring and overlapping. It is quantity over quality.
Fixing them would be better instead of adding more.
  148. How can they talk about darker style with that WOW crap graphic style? So pathetic. They need to rebuild whole graphic engine which will never ever happen. Dead game, dead expansion-patch. RIP
