Diablo 3 2.0.1 PTR access problems

With the news of the Diablo 3 2.0.1 PTRΒ opening earlier for one and all, players have been dashing to get their PTR accounts up and running and trying tpo access the PTR in the launcher.

There are problems however as the button to create a PTR account on Diablo 3 BattleNet account page does not actually exist. Blizzard commented:

Thanks for the reports, folks! We’re looking into the issue where players cannot see the “Beta: Reaper of Souls” option when in the Battle.net desktop app (and after successfully creating a PTR account)

It is thought that if you already have an account set up this button will not show. I have tested this after removing a previous PTR install and the button is indeed missing. An additional note from Blizard read:

– If you’ve participated in any previous Diablo III PTR, the “Create PTR account” button may not appear. This is because you’ve already created a PTR account and can therefore skip this step.

    • Make sure you’re double-clicking on your D3 game license in Account Management and not just highlighting it or just clicking it once.
    • In order to access the PTR, you must use the Battle.net desktop app. The previous PTR client will not work and cannot be used to access the Patch 2.0.1 PTR.

Having already removed the old PTR files from the system here, the option in the launcher is still not available so there is a problem with this.

Update #4:

Post 1.

Thanks for all the reports regarding character copy issues! We’re tracking that issue here.

Post 2.

Thanks for the reports! Are you folks being directed to this link whenever attempting to use the PTR Copy feature?

http://us.battle.net/en/nydus-error?ref=/D3/enUS/client/ros-upgrade

That last link is dead right now unfortunately but Blizzard are also working on that.

PTR Character Copy Workaround

There is currently an issue with the PTR character copy banner that is causing it to be obscured by other UI elements on the Diablo III PTR client home screen.

While we do not have an ETA for a fix for this, we have identified two viable workarounds for this issue. Performing either of these sets of actions will cause the “upgrade” banner to be replaced with a PTR character copy banner:

  1. Exiting and then re-entering both the Battle.net Desktop App and Diablo III PTR game client
  2. Entering a game and then exiting back to the home screen.

We are currently working on getting a more convenient solution in place, but for now these are viable workarounds and should allow you to get your existing characters copied to the PTR.

Update #3:

Update: It appears that Issue #2 may be resolved!

Please try restarting your Battle.net desktop app, navigating to the Diablo III page using the left-hand side menu, and then clicking on the drop-down selector above the Play/Install button. You should now see an option that says PTR: Diablo III. Click this option; the PTR data should immediately begin downloading.

This is what you should see. If not, the problem is not resolved for you.

battlenet desktop application

Update #2:

We are aware of and currently investigating two issues where players are having trouble accessing the 2.0.1 PTR:

Issue #1: After creating a PTR account in your Battle.net Account settings, the download link for the PTR displays a page indicating there is no download available.

Workaround: In order to access the PTR, you’ll need to download the Battle.net desktop app. While a link may not be available on the download page, you can still download the Battle.net desktop app directly from this page after you’ve created a PTR account. (Note: If you’ve participated in any previous Diablo III PTR, the “Create PTR account” button may not appear. This is because you’ve already created a PTR account.)

Issue #2: When logging into the Battle.net desktop application, the “Beta: Reaper of Souls” option in the drop-down menu above the “Play” button is not available.

Workaround: None available at this time.

We don’t currently have additional details or an ETA for when these issues will be resolved, but they remain a priority for our teams and we will update this thread as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to resolve these issues as soon as possible.

Update: #1Β Blizzard are apparently also trying to track issues via this threadΒ on BattleNet.

If you are having problems let us know in the comments.

Note: If you are in the beta or on the PTR then look for ‘IncGamers Community‘ (case sensitive) to meet up with other windswept and interesting people from the Diablo: IncGamers’ community.

  1. I am in EU and no PTR option in the Battle.net app so far.
    Never participate in PTR before

  2. I have indeed tested 1.08 and had the old PTR client, only to having had removed it a while ago.

Now I do not see any option to re-download it, as the only option to download a client is the actual D3C one. The actual Bnet launcher Beta app doesn’t let me join the PTR server either?

Do I needd to re-download the battle net launcher beta app?

  3. I also had PTR 1.08 installed, removed it quite some time ago, no RoS Beta or PTR 2.0.1 showing in Battle.net App.

*sigh* Hope this will be sorted out soon… :/

  4. To be honest, as frustrating as not being able to start testing 2.0.1 is, I really couldn’t care less, if I knew the RoS key was on it’s way…

Come ooooooooooooooooooooon Blizzard! Daddy need’s a need pair of beta shoes!

  5. No button here either πŸ™‚ I hope to get it before I go to sleep, so I can download it during the night.

  6. I’ve tested previous PTRs and I also have no option in my account management page to “Create a PTR account” and I have no install option int he battle net app to install the new PTR.
Shame I was so excited to get testing πŸ™

  7. Since WHEN do you need to double-click on a web page?!

  8. Hey Flux,

I tested another PTR and just Uninstalled it today. After I uninstalled it, the PTR option on the dropdown menu disappeared. Probably the problem has something to do with ppl that already tested past PTRs.

    • this is what I did. I am soooooo bummed that I clicked uninstall. I did it thinking that I could reinstall it. But, The option to reinstall never came back.

  9. Probably so, marcelobda.. and that tip from the CM to double click is absolutely retarded. Who doesn’t have double click as a default part of their mouse pointer in 2013?!

  10. I never was on PTR, creating that account few minutes ago and I don’t have it either πŸ™
    At last we’re together πŸ™‚

  11. Same here. If I download the PTR client it opens up the bnet desktop app. I can’t install the PTR. I have redownloaded the Desktop app and nothing… I wanna test!

  12. Everyone is having issues. Something with the new battle.net app not doing what it’s supposed to, i.e. giving us a PTR download option.

  13. At least I can “enjoy” the Hearthstone Beta until D3 PTR issues get resolved

    …. *geeze*

  14. Yea I already had a PTR account and it doesn’t show an option to DL the PTR in the battle.net app. I’ve been closing and reopening the desktop app constantly…

  15. Before this PTR was available I had the PTR button on the launcher. I checked just now after seeing the news of the new PTR being available and the PTR button is missing here as well u_u. Let’s hope this is resolved soon(Not blizzard soon that is :P).

  16. I had the last PTR installed, and I have the desktop client installed. Only option I have when selecting PTR: Diablo III is Uninstall, and it is still showing under “In Development.”

  17. Btw, guys – you scared the shit out of me with the automatic Twitch stream on your main page.

  18. It worked fine for me. I simply downloaded the new PTR client. Uninstalled my old one and then re-installed the new one. Away we go.

  19. It’s working now.

  20. The PTR button appeared again on my launcher. It does not say β€œBeta: Reaper of Souls” just “PTR: Diablo 3”. At the moment of install it says diablo 3 beta 2013 though. So I’m not really sure if the previous PTR became available and I’m downloading that one or if it’s the current 2.0.1 PTR. I certainly hope it’s the latter.

  21. Yeah, it’s finally working, however by the looks of it, it’s just the D3 2.0.1 PTR, not ROS, dammit πŸ˜›

  22. Never before have I focused on a DL-progressbar as much as right now πŸ˜€

  23. I have a workaround if the new PTR installer is not working.

The OLD Diablo 3 PTR download allows you to download & install the required PTR data.

But first you must delete out the Battle.net Launcher (uninstall if you can).

Then install the Diablo 3 PTR via this old installer.

    Then reinstall the battlenet launcher.

Uploaded the old PTR installer till Blizzard fixes their Launcher or resupplies everyone with a PTR installer that works.

    http://anaheimofmanheim.com/Storage/Diablo-III-Public-Test-Setup-enUS.exe

    • I had done a reinstall of my OS (upgraded to windows 8.1) which removed my registry entries for uninstalling the battle net launcher.

Also I already was apart of the PTR & didn’t have an option to add a PTR account.

Also I didn’t have the PTR already installed on my machine.

So, My battle net launcher wasn’t responding to the new PTR installer.

Meaning Blizzard has released a PTR installer that doesn’t allow the battle net launcher to recognize an already existing old PTR account from their server.

  24. Leaving it for night to download 50% and hope to get it past 100% tomorrow before going to sleep πŸ™

I wish you all good luck at getting yours beta key πŸ™‚
Though I wish for mine harder πŸ˜€

  25. It’s PUBLIC, so everyone has it. Downloading it now πŸ™‚

  26. Servers are getting hammered..
Gotta say, even without RoS, a very big improvement.
Guess I’ll stick to playing PTR until RoS-release!

  27. 4GB left, though I’m gonna hop in in a minute πŸ™‚

  28. The download is really ~15GB? I’m sure I recall a previous PTR that said ~8GB download and in the end it only needed to download a few hundred MB. Mine said 14.89GB remaining as of now … πŸ™

Yes. Presumably because there is more content there, even if you cannot actually access most of it.

Fair enough. Although the amount of new content is not that much — this patch does not include Act V, the Crusader, etc.

The PTR likely uses exactly the same client as the RoS beta, which is why it’s so large. This probably made it much simpler and faster to deploy than if all the extra stuff would have been excluded from it. I fully expect that will happen for the full version of the game though, so Patch 2.0 probably won’t be 6GB in size.

This, The extra stuff is just locked out (and technically the game would have to access it, if you played with a Crusader).

    15GB on a 1mbps is taking a while πŸ˜‰

    • I have 2 at night and on lectures I have way higher so I was not so bad for me. I feel your pain though, this night it finished for – fortunately it runs after only few GBs are downloaded.

  34. QUOTE

Got to the "Playable" stage, waited in a queue, and then nothing happened at "Authenticating Credentials".

The server stress testing is still in progress, so things like this is expected. Be patient, I seemingly got stuck during authentication as well on my first try yesterday, but after about a minute I got in.

Eventually got passed it, then hit the “Downloading Additional Content” hurdle. Waiting for that now πŸ™‚

  36. So far the patch has given me nothing but heartache πŸ™ Around 9GB still to download. Started a game, copied characters over, but every time I start a game, I get the “Downloading Additional Content” message, data downloads for some period of time, then the connection is lost. Wash, rinse, repeat for the last few hours πŸ™

  37. That really sucks Sabre. The only advice I can give is to wait for the download to finish first. The PTR can be unstable even with a fully downloaded client. While reading the chat I’ve seen quite a few people having problems joining games or having serious latency issues.

  38. When it first says “playable” it isn’t, that’s why.

Yeah, I think that’s the best idea. Nothing but aggravation otherwise. Thanks.

    +1 Thanks πŸ™‚

  41. Also it seems the beta client is a serious resource hog, I have no idea why.
