Diablo 3 Hotfixes: Grotesques and Others Fixed

Posted 22 May 2016 by at 19:35 GMT

On Friday May 20th Blizzard deployed hotfixes to fix certain mobs with special effects like Grotesques and others that would occasionally bug out and could not be killed.

The following hotfix is now live:

  • Fixed an issue where monsters with special death effects, such as Grotesques, could occasionally not be killed (5/20)

I’ve not encountered this but I have seen animated gifs on the diablo subreddit showing annoying situations especially with bugged unseen Grotesques attacking players. That had to be very dangerous in HC.

Diablo 3: 4th Anniversary

Posted 16 May 2016 by at 04:00 GMT

It’s amazing how the years go by so fast. From the error 37’s to the Auction House and then the dabbling hell that was Inferno. So much has changed since then and the game is so much better off for it. Just as Lord of Destruction made Diablo 2 great. So too did Reaper of Souls for Diablo 3.

Four years ago, we began a journey across Sanctuary that would forever alter the tide of the Eternal Conflict. In that time, millions of nephalem have stormed the gates of the High Heavens, taken down the Prime Evil, and collected more loot than a treasure goblin could hope to collect.

Art by ChaoyuanXu.

It’s been one hell of a journey, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for being with us every step of the way. Diablo III would not have become the game it is today without the support of our players, and we’re so thrilled to share the horrors, magic, and Legendary goodies Sanctuary has to offer with our community.

Here’s to four years of adventure, heroes!

What’s your fondest memories and or nightmares from Diablo 3?

Diablo’s Stieg Hedlund talks about the future of the ARPG

Posted 10 May 2016 by at 04:58 GMT

Stieg HedlundStieg Hedlund (see bio) who worked on both Diablo, Diablo 2 and LOD has posted a blog discussing the future of the ARPG. In the article, he looks back at the early beginnings of the genre including D&D, the CRPGs and JRPGS and where it eventually led to.

In a section called “Send in the Clones” he moves on to the Diablo series and then discusses where he thinks the genre is now heading. Here’s a snip:

Diablo came out at the end of that same year, also picking up the Roguelike trope of the randomized dungeon, which kept the novelty level high. While it was quite successful, and a few clones did appear, it was really the massive success of Diablo II

(D2) that ushered in a flood of them. To me, Diablo proved that we could find an audience for this new game type, and D2 let me explore it much more thoroughly. Many clones, at least initially, were quite literal—wholesale adoption of all the elements in D2, with varying degrees of success.
